Glue Dots Summer Bonding Project

Like most children, my son loves crafts. He would happily make something new every day if I would let him. But every parent knows that when kids start creating, there is going to be some mess involved! I try to indulge Zackary’s creative impulses as much as possible, but there are times when I just don’t have the time or the energy to clean up after his latest art project. So when I received a chance to participate in the Glue Dots Summer Bonding Project hosted by TwitterMoms, I couldn’t wait to see if these innovative adhesive dots would help minimize the crafting mess.

Glue Dots productsThe hardest thing about our project was deciding what to make. Finally, I just pulled out a box full of leftover craft supplies from my days as a preschool craft leader at the library and rooted through it. I pulled out some poster board circles that had been used to make Christmas wreaths, various construction paper flower shapes, a bell, some yarn, a magnet and some beads. With our supplies assembled, Zackary and I sat down, opened a package of Glue Dots and began creating our own unique summer wreath.

Zackary chose shapes to paste on the wreath and just loved applying Glue Dots to them! He peeled off the paper backing and carefully stuck the Glue Dot onto the shape. Then, he handed the shape to me so that I could squeeze the dot firmly onto the paper and peel off the plastic cover. I gave the paper shapes back to my son to stick onto the circle. It was such a wonderful feeling, sitting with my son and working on a craft together. It gave us a chance to do something as a team and take pride in our joint efforts.

When the wreath was covered in flowers, Zackary chose some beads for the centers and we carefully placed Mini Glue Dots on each bead. Zackary positioned the beads on the wreath one by one. Finally, I made a quick bow with a piece of yarn and a bell and stuck it to the front of the wreath. Zackary then attached the magnet to the back so that we could hang our wreath on the fridge. Our craft was complete, and it looked fabulous!

Sticking beads to a paper craft is something that requires hours of drying time when using white glue, and is often completely impossible using a glue stick. But with the Glue Dots, the beads were firmly in place as soon as we stuck them on and have remained so ever since! The other big advantage of Glue Dots is that we were able to completely avoid the sticky mess that results from using craft glue or glue sticks. The only thing I had to clean up was a little bit of used construction paper!

I was very impressed with how easy it was to make a great looking craft with the Glue Dots. Of course, spending some extra quiet time with my son was the greatest benefit of all! Craft time is definitely more fun for everyone when Glue Dots are involved!
