About a month ago I made the switch from using cloth diapers just occasionally to full-time cloth diapering. The change was surprisingly easy, and I am incredibly impressed with how great the experience has been. I am helping ensure my baby’s health and minimizing the waste my household produces. Best of all, I never have to worry about running out of diapers or remembering to buy more!
A large part of the reason that I have found cloth diapering so pleasurable is the fact that I have been using the amazing new Best Bottom one size diaper system created by Nicki’s Diapers. The Best Bottom system was designed to be the most convenient cloth diapering system available, and I was lucky enough to be able test it out for myself.
The Best Bottom system consists of a waterproof shell that will fit babies from birth to 35 lbs and snap-in inserts in a range of three different sizes. The shells come with either snap or hook and loop closures and are available in a choice of seven vibrant colors inspired by ice cream flavors. I received the Orange Sherbet snap closure shell with three large Stay Dry Inserts to review. I loved the bright orange shade of the shell, and the contrasting blue trim definitely made the color stand out even more. The inserts were held in place with a snap at the back and the front of the shell. I snapped in an insert and put the diaper on Benjamin.
After putting it on, I decided that I needed to make the diaper a little smaller to ensure a proper fit, so I used the adjustable rise snaps on the front of the diaper to make it one size smaller. The diaper fit perfectly after the adjustment.
Benjamin wore his diaper for about five hours before I changed him and stayed leak-free for the entire time. Changing him was as simple as snapping in a new insert and putting on the diaper. Because there were snaps at both the back and front of the insert, I also didn’t have to struggle to get the insert properly positioned when I was putting the diaper on my squirmy baby. All I had to do was make sure that the shell was pulled up well over the front of the insert and that the sides of the insert were tucked into the shell around Benjamin’s legs and I knew he would stay dry and happy.
There were a few features about the Best Bottom one size diaper system that really stood out to me. First of all, the leg openings of the shell feature a double gusset to ensure that the diaper provides unparalleled leak and mess protection. The diaper is also incredibly trim fitting and stylish. But my favorite feature of this system is a benefit I didn’t fully appreciate until Benjamin messed his diaper.
I had just snapped the first of my three freshly cleaned liners into the shell and put the diaper on my baby when I noticed that distinctive aroma. I sat down to change him, despairing of the fact that I would have to wash the entire diaper, when I unsnapped the tabs and realized that the Best Bottom system features a wipeable interior! I unsnapped the soiled liner, wiped the inside of the shell clean and snapped a fresh liner into the diaper. Even after a mess, I could continue to use the same shell with nothing more than a quick wipe! Occasionally, the shell’s inner leg gussets do get soiled and necessitate that the liner be changed, but for the most part, a single shell can be used pretty much all day long.
The Best Bottom system offers inserts in different materials to suit the needs of any mother. The Stay Dry Insert features four layers of microfiber topped with a soft, non-pilling fleece. The Hemp/Organic Cotton Insert contains five layers of hemp/organic cotton topped with hemp/organic cotton fleece. There are also overnight inserts and doubler inserts available to offer maximum protection when needed. Of course, the gorgeous shells ensure that babies will look as great as they feel!
Since my first day using the Best Bottom one size diaper system, I have tested the diaper in many situations and I have been impressed with the results every time. It keeps Benjamin dry and comfortable overnight, and contains large messes with ease. I am incredibly impressed with the leak protection I receive from the Best Bottom system, and I adore the colors of the shell. When I use this diaper, chances are very good that Benjamin will be wearing a t-shirt and nothing else, because I love to show it off!
