It’s Father’s Day and Mommy Kat and Kids is celebrating with an extra fun and quirky giveaway for the man of the house! Chilling Tales from the Porcelain Seat is a collection of plumbing horror stories collected from the employees at Roto-Rooter and compiled into a book that is as funny as it is startling. I got the chance to review the book for myself and I had no idea what to expect.
The book was divided into different sections that had titles like You Found What In My Drain? and DIY Gone Wrong. I was surprised by how entertaining the book was; far from being a collection of crass bathroom stories, Chilling Tales from the Porcelain Seat was packed with amazing stories of what some people have found lurking in their plumbing. From the story of a man that lost his false teeth down the toilet bowl to tales of monstrous tree roots destroying entire plumbing systems, it was obvious that keeping water flowing through a house isn’t always an easy task.
My favourite story was one about a house that would suddenly develop leaks in the basement whenever there was a drought. Leaks during excessive rain are fairly common, of course, but the leak that appeared only when there was excessive dry heat baffled city inspectors and the homeowner alike. After years of searching for a solution, giving up and beginning the search again, the answer was finally found and it was completely logical, though it had been so baffling before the answer was discovered!
Chilling Tales from the Porcelain Seat would make a great gift for your favourite handyman and is perfect reading for the man that just has to have reading material in the bathroom! With commentary from plumbers and Ghost Hunters stars Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson and lots of fun facts and tips for the DIY enthusiast, this is guy-friendly reading at its best.
I enjoyed this book, which is the quick and easy light reading that so many men favour. Also, since the book is comprised of short stories, it can be read gradually over a few days. If you’re looking for a fun and unique gift for a special guy on a birthday, Father’s Day or just because, check out Chilling Tales from the Porcelain Seat!

Our worst plumbing comes from having a lovely daughter with Aspergers who is afraid of the flush noise, and LOVES TP, we have had more than a few grizzly incounters with clogged toilets. It is getting better as she gets older though.

Our worst plumbing experience was when our child clogged the toilet so bad we had to remove it from the floor to get it unclogged it was horrid.

Toilet started backing up into my bathtub and shower. I called the plumber right away. I cost a bundle but he cleaned out the clog.

We had a nightmare of an experience when our tub began leaking into the basement, all over everything, including my wife’s scrapbooking station. OOPS.

Our shower is mysteriously leaking only when my daughter is in it. Maybe leaning against the walls? Well, it leaks away from the bathroom to the rug in the family room. Wet, wet, soaked. We’re still working on it -to be continued…

I know better than to mess with plumbing! My husband, on the other hand… Our toilet was leaking from where it sits on the floor. My husband, instead of just calling his friend who KNOWS about this stuff, *caulked) all around the toilet. It worked… for about a week. The floor started getting big bumps it it, all over the bathroom. The tiles were coming up. It stunk terribly!
He finally called his friend. We now have to replace the entire floor because the wood underneath warped. There is a fan on in there, drying the floor 24/7. And you HAVE to turn on the light at night because those bumps will trip you!
