I’ve been introduced to a few teen sitcoms since I started review blogging and I’m always intrigued to learn about the newest shows for the older youth audience. Recently, I got the chance to review VICTORiOUS: Season One, Volume One on DVD and since I had seen previews for the show, I was excited to check it out. I had never actually watched this particular Nickelodeon hit before but I had been very impressed by some of Nick’s other teen sitcoms so I couldn’t wait to see what the newest Nickelodeon comedy was like. Here’s a brief synopsis:
Hit the stage with Tori Vega and all the amazing students at Hollywood Arts, the most prestigious performing arts high school in the country! From wowing the crowd at the big showcase to movie roles, stage fights, monster makeup, and more, these talented students are ready to shine!
I happened to first watch this DVD with my thirteen-year-old sister and as soon as she saw the case she exclaimed, “VICTORiOUS!” I love this show; it’s hilarious!”
We sat down to watch the two-disc DVD set together and while I didn’t find it as good as some of the other teen comedies I’ve reviewed, it was an enjoyable show. Overall, I found the plots and premise of the show to be a bit overdone. In my opinion, there can only be so many shows about aspiring singers and actors trying to make it big. But of course, I’m not the target audience.
My sister, on the other hand, absolutely loved the DVD collection and since she is very much a part of the show’s target audience, I have to conclude that VICTORiOUS does a great job of entertaining the young teenagers for whom the show was created.
The show did have some genuinely funny moments and some original plots and most teenagers would probably find it to be a very fun and enjoyable show. While it may not be the most entertaining choice for family comedy, it is a great choice for teen comedy. VICTORiOUS: Season One, Volume One is a collection that is definitely worth picking up if you have a fan of the series in your home. So check it out and see if this newest Nickelodeon sitcom is a hit in your household!
