What kid doesn’t love painting? Turning a clean white piece of paper into a colourful wet work of art is one of those activities that is just irresistible. But the set-up, supervising and clean up that is required from a parent means that painting projects are mostly saved for special occasions in our house!
Aquadoodle, one of the amazing brands from Spin Master, offers parents an alternative to messy painting crafts that kids are sure to love too; colourful creations created with water. Let the water dry and the picture vanishes so that your child can start yet again!
Aquadoodle has been around for a few years, but this August, the brand is introducing some new Aquadoodle toys that kids everywhere will be dying to test out. I was thrilled when I got the chance to review the brand new Aquadoodle Doodle Buddy and the new four-colour Aquadoodle Basic Mat for myself.
The Aquadoodle Doodle Buddy is available in a dog, penguin or teddy bear design. Each buddy has a blank tummy that features Aquadoodle’s amazing water painting fabric. The Doodle Buddy holds a water pen that can be used to decorate the cuddly buddy however a child likes.
We received the Aquadoodle Doodle Buddy dog to review and Benjamin immediately claimed it for himself. I filled the water pen for him and he had so much fun turning his new friend’s tummy purple! When Benjamin had lost interest, Zackary took over and made swirls and shapes on the Doodle Buddy’s tummy. In fact, even I took a turn and drew our new buddy a fancy button-up shirt and tie to wear!
The best part was, within about five minutes of drawing the design, the Doodle Buddy’s tummy was white once again and there was no mess to clean up! The Doodle Buddy is the perfect size to take in a stroller or car to keep kids entertained on the go and it has become an essential for me anytime we are expecting to wait in one place. It’s such a fun and easy way to keep my boys entertained when they start getting bored!
We also received the fabulous Aquadoodle Basic Mat. What I loved about this newly redesigned classic mat was that it was divided into four separate (and invisible) sections, each of which created a different colour!
When Zackary sat down with the water-filled pen to draw on the mat, he started out on the blue section. He entertained himself drawing race cars for a few minutes before looking up and asking me, “How do I make it be a different colour?” I took the pen for a moment and drew across one of the sections, making a line that was half blue and half red. He was absolutely delighted. “That’s so cool, Mom!” he exclaimed, and immediately got to work drawing a set of red race cars to match the blue ones!
When he had finally filled the mat with race cars in four different colours, I just hung up the mat to dry and then rolled it up for another day. Zackary had spent at least an hour in perfect contentment drawing on the mat, and yet the clean up took just seconds! Now that’s a great kid’s activity!
Both the Aquadoodle Doodle Buddy and the Aquadoodle Basic Mat were a huge hit with my boys, and the easy clean-up makes them a huge hit with me too! They’re such fun toys to pull out when Zackary has friends over to play and I haven’t seen a kid yet that doesn’t love drawing on the surfaces and watching the colourful designs slowly fade away!
