With the first day of school sneaking closer and closer, most parents are on the hunt for new clothes, school supplies and food for the lunchbox. I must admit that I adore shopping for school. I used to love heading out to choose the things I would use for the new school year and I’m so excited that I get to shop for my son this year!
Choosing treats for the lunchbox is just as fun, but I have some pretty specific requirements when it comes to lunches. I like the lunches I pack to be as healthy and as eco-friendly as possible. And of course, they have to be delicious so that my son actually eats them!
Recently I got the chance to try a tasty cookie treat from Barbara’s Bakery that seemed like the perfect lunchbox treat. The scrumptious cookies were a fun new take on the classic animal cookies that so many children love and I couldn’t wait to give them a try.
I received Snackimals in Peanut Butter and Double Chocolate to review. I also received a fun kid-friendly survey to give to my kids after they had tried the cookies, so we opened the Peanut Butter Snackimals and sat down to do some reviewing.
The Snackimals were absolutely delicious and I was so happy to learn that they were free of artificial flavours, artificial colours and trans fats. The boys loved them, but honestly, I think that I loved them even more. I literally shook the crumbs out of the bag when the cookies were gone; they were that tasty! (I think the fact that the peanut butter cookies also contained peanut butter chips might have had something to do with their addictiveness!)
We tried out the Double Chocolate Snackimals a few days later and the boys definitely gobbled them up more quickly than the peanut butter variety. I enjoyed them, but peanut butter was still my favourite! Then, we did the survey together and Zackary gave both varieties Three “Yums” and chose the monkey as his favourite animal in the package.
I loved that the boys enjoyed the Barbara’s Bakery Snackimals so much, especially since they were free of so many of the things that I try to keep out of our diet. They’re certainly not health food (they are cookies, after all) but they are a much more natural choice for my son’s lunch than many other popular lunchbox brands. Since they come in a large bag, I can portion them out as I see fit in a small reusable container to reduce waste. And best of all, kids LOVE them!
