My regular readers will know already that I don’t just enjoy children’s music, I have very strong beliefs about the importance of music in a child’s development. So when I get the chance to review a new children’s CD, I always get excited. For me, there is nothing more enjoyable than discovering a fun new children’s artist for my kids and me to enjoy together.
So I leapt at the chance to review the newest album from the beloved children’s group The Chickadees. The Froggy Hop is the second album from this fun quartet and is a collection of eleven songs with a strong folk-country feel and a focus on respecting and protecting the environment. I loved the music and the message in this fun children’s CD.
Country music is not my genre of choice, but the upbeat and rhythmic melodies on The Froggy Hop were surprisingly pleasant. I really liked how simple it was to sing along to the songs; since most of them featured an easy to follow rhythm and a memorable chorus, my boys and I could often join in the singing halfway through the song!
The boys’ personal favourite song was definitely the first one on the CD, Tadpole Wiggle and the Froggy Hop. The song teaches children about the metamorphic cycle of the frog as it grows from an egg to a squirming tadpole to a fully-grown frog. What the boys loved about it was that not only was it a great song for singing along, it was a great one for dancing! They had so much fun wiggling and hopping during the chorus, and I had just as much fun watching them!
I loved all the fun facts about animals in the songs as well as the recurring theme of taking care of our environment. My boys both love learning about the natural sciences, so the subject matter on the CD, which covered topics such as hibernation and nocturnal animals, was a great one for them. And the fact that songs about animals tend to be perfect songs for dancing was a great bonus!
If you’re looking for a CD that inspires singing and dancing while helping kids learn too, The Chickadees The Froggy Hop is sure to please. The CD can be purchased on The Chickadees website and is a great way to combine entertainment and education for your kids. Check it out for yourself today!

The Chickadees’ Parent’s Choice award winning debut album, “Songs From The Great Outdoors” was aimed at preschoolers, “The Froggy Hop” is decidedly aimed at entertaining and enlightening big kids in their first few years of school.
I loved the photos of birds on their site (Friends at the Feeder and Friends at the Feeder 2). I have been feeding the birds during the winter for many years here in upstate NY. There’s even a photo of a black squirrel – I’ve never seen a black squirrel in these parts. I also think the T-shirts on their for kids are cute.
