Nothing makes a great meal like quality ingredients. And for quality you can trust, turn to Louianna Estates! Louianna offers  organic extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar that provide incredible flavour and health benefits to your dishes. I was so excited when I got the chance to try both of these great products for myself.

I’ve recently learned a bit about the different types of olive oil and since I do love a good deal, I admit that I’ve tended to buy the cheapest varieties when shopping for olive oil in the past. But did you know that sometimes extra virgin olive oil actually…isn’t? A recent study by UC-Davis of the contents of twenty verities of extra virgin olive oil found that approximately two-thirds of the olive oil was mislabelled as extra virgin. And a study by the Canadian Food Council shows that one of every five olive oil brands on Canadian shelves isn’t pure olive oil at all. Sometimes the olive oil is blended with cheaper canola, seed or nut oils. And sometimes the product you’re buying is pure olive oil, but the quality is so poor that in Italy it would be used only as lamp fuel.

So how do you make sure that the olive oil you’re using is actually 100% pure extra virgin olive oil? Well, with Louianna, it’s easy! Since every bottle is cold pressed to retain its flavour and health benefits, certified organic and certified extra virgin after extensive independent testing, you know that you are actually getting all the health benefits and delicious flavour of true extra virgin olive oil.

So having tried Louianna Extra Virgin Olive Oil for myself, was there a difference? Oh, but how! The flavour of the oil was sweeter, milder and nuttier than the olive oil I have used in the past and I couldn’t believe how much more palatable it was. I used it to sauté a batch of sliced mushrooms along with a few cloves of garlic and then glazed them with the Louianna Balsamic Vinegar, another very special product. Made with grapes from the Modena region of Italy, the vinegar is aged in caskets for four years to create balsamic vinegar that is sweet, tangy and wonderfully complex. It really enhanced the flavour of the mushrooms and my husband and I devoured them in minutes.

I enjoyed the mushrooms a lot, but I decided that I really wanted a chance to taste both of the products on their own without any other strong flavours interfering. So I found a nice loaf of multigrain artisan bread and served it with a classic olive oil and vinegar swirl for dipping. It let the rich flavour of these organic products shine and I was once again blown away by the difference between the Louianna Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil and the store brands I’d used in the past.

Louianna wants to give you the chance to taste the difference for yourself, so the company is very generously offering one lucky Mommy Kat and Kids reader a wooden gift box containing Louianna Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar, a $50 value! To enter to win, just visit the Louianna website and leave a blog comment about something you liked or something you learned there.
