Every mom knows that soothing a fussy newborn can be quite a challenge, but for the one in four babies suffering from colic, having the right bottle can make all the difference. The MAM Anti-Colic Bottle quickly became a best-seller when it launched in Europe; it helps reduce baby’s air intake during feedings, decreasing colic symptoms and making it the perfect choice for parents who choose bottles for feedings with breast milk or formula. And now for the first time, the MAM Anti-Colic Bottle is available in Canada!
I got a package of the new Anti-Colic Bottles from MAM Canada to try and basically, I love everything about them. However I must say that the main reason I love them is because by nature I am a forgetful, sometimes lazy person. I mean… busy. Let’s say I’m busy! I hate having to sanitize bottles and to be honest, it’s done a lot less than it should be because of that. But with the MAM bottles there is no reason to procrastinate. Sanitizing is as easy as it’s going to get; put an ounce of water into the base of the bottle, set the nipple and top bottle component onto the base, screw the bottle on, set the lid on top, and toss into the microwave for 3 minutes. No pots of boiling water that has to be watched, which is perfect for me since I have a bad habit of getting distracted and forgetting about the pot until after the water has boiled away. So for us “busy” moms, put some water in the bottom, put it in the microwave, and forget about it until you need it! The easy sterilizing is definitely my favorite feature.
But that’s only the first of the many benefits of the MAM Anti-Colic Bottles. These bottles have tons of extra features to make it easier for us moms and dads. Chase is not a fussy baby by nature (though he’s sitting on my lap trying to help type right now because he dropped one of my high heels on his foot and needed a cuddle), and he’s only ever had colic once. We remember it quite well; he was almost a month old and it was a long night. Not all parents are as lucky though, so for the colicky babies out there, the MAM bottle has a vented base that helps regulate the air pressure inside so little ones will swallow fewer air bubbles. The design has been a huge hit with parents of colicky babies so far!
The MAM bottle also has handy easy measurement markings. I took a university Calculus class last year but that does not mean I’m good at simple math. Luckily for me, the bottles have an oversized scale that goes up in increments of ten, with numbered labels every 30 ml (formula is measured in 60, perfect!). I’ll never have to use the calculator on my phone again! Don’t worry, it also measures in fluid ounces so that when your doctor or the Public Health Nurse asks how much your baby eats, you’ll be able to tell her.
The MAM Anti-Colic Bottle comes in two sizes, 5 onces and 9 ounce, but the tops and bottoms are the same size for both so they can all be interchanged. The openings on the bottles are nice and wide as well, which makes them easy to fill and wash. Chase’s dad refuses to wash some of our bottles because he can’t get to the bottoms but he has no excuse with these! MAM Baby makes four sizes of ultra-soft silicone Silk Teat nipples with a familiar orthodontic shape for breastfeeding babies, ideal for moms that supplement with formula. When I first received the bottles my baby was already entirely on formula and he resisted using them initially; the nipple was different from what he was used to. But after the first couple of feedings he settled right in and now eats without a complaint.
If you’re interested in trying the MAM Anti-Colic Bottle, you’re in luck! MAM Baby is offering one lucky Mommy Kat and Kids reader a MAM Baby prize pack containing a triple pack of 9 ounce bottles, a triple pack of 5 ounce bottles and assorted extra nipple of varied sizes, a $64 value! To enter, simply leave a blog comment about whether your baby suffers from colic. And don’t forget to check out the MAM Canada Facebook page for all the latest news and promotions from MAM Baby!
The MAM Anti-Colic Bottles come in four colours: white, pink, blue, and green, and can be found at Walmart and Shopper’s Drug Mart stores across Canada for a suggested retail price of $10 for a single bottle, and $23 for a triple pack. You can feel safe using them for your child too as they are all BPA-free, PVC-free, lead-free, CPSIA-compliant, and microwave and dishwasher safe. So whether you’re trying to find the best bottle for your colicky baby or just want a great easy-to-use and easy-to-clean bottle, check out the MAM Anti-Colic Bottle and see why it’s such a hit with moms and their babies!
