It’s hard to believe that it’s already time to start thinking about school, but in just a few short weeks, kids will be heading back to class with backpacks full of new school supplies. But for some families, going back to school means desperately trying to get necessary supplies that they don’t have the money to buy.
For the last eleven years, the Office Depot Foundation has been helping those children with its National Backpack Program. This incredible program provides sackpacks with some essential school supplies to children whose families are struggling financially. This year, 400,000 colourful new sackpacks will be distributed to organizations across North America. This year, sackpacks will be sent to Feed the Children, Speedway Children’s Charities, Food for the Poor and many other fantastic charities.
I received one of the sackpacks so that I could see for myself what they were like. The thing that really impressed me about these bags is that they didn’t have any Office Depot branding on them. The Office Depot Foundation really wants to make sure that children receive something that they can feel good about taking to school, something that can’t be identified as a charity donation. The sackpacks are printed with fun designs and each one contains a pencil case that has essential school supplies like pencils, a ruler and crayons inside.
While there is still almost a month before school starts, the Office Depot Foundation has been hard at work since July getting its sackpacks ready for distribution. And to help spread the word about this amazing initiative, the Office Depot Foundation is offering two lucky Mommy Kat and Kids reader one of its sackpacks. Give it to yourself or help spread the goodwill by donating it to your favourite charity! To enter to win, just leave a blog comment about whether or not you’ve started shopping for back-to-school supplies.
My boys are both so excited for school to start again and it makes me feel so sad to think about the children that miss out on the fun of the back-to-school season. Fortunately, great organizations like the Office Depot Foundation are working hard to make sure that going back to school is a great experience for all children. Check out the fabulous work this organization is doing and show your support!
