If you grew up in the seventies, you’re probably already familiar with the action, excitement and danger that filled each episode of the popular police drama Hawaii Five-0. And now die-hard fans can enjoy new episodes and a younger generation can discover a new favourite show with the remake of the series, which debuted in the fall of 2010. Hawaii Five-0: The Second Season was recently released on Blu-ray and DVD and I received a screener copy to check out for myself. Here’s a brief synopsis:
New crimes, new criminals and new corruption confront the elite federalized task force known as Hawaii Five-0 in the action-packed series featuring the rugged enforcement team whose mission is to wipe out the crime that washes up on the islands’ sun-drenched beaches. Season Two starts with a stunner – Detective Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) finds himself behind bars, accused of murdering the Governor. The action accelerates with new leads in the killing of McGarrett’s father. And things go from hot to explosive in cases that include Kono (Grace Park) being suspended from the force, the arrest of Chin Ho (Daniel Dae Kim) at the Russian consulate and the kidnapping of Danno’s (Scott Cann) young daughter in a bizarre revenge plot. Join the Five-0 team for all 23 episodes of high-velocity, crime-busting action!
My husband had watched the original Hawaii Five-0 series and I had never seen it so we were well suited to review this DVD set. Having no idea what to expect, I was quickly caught up in the action of the series, which balanced humour, danger and action together in a great way. Police dramas are not my first choice if I’m watching television but overall I found the series entertaining and very high energy.
My husband, as a fan of the original series, was eager to see how the characters and plot had been updated for a new generation. He appreciated the modernization of the series and commented that the interaction between McGarrett and Danno really kept the show moving along. He’s sold on the new series and has watched the DVD set more than once already.
With special features including the Aloha Action! Take 2 featurette highlighting the show’s dramatic stunts, an inside look at the creation of the second season called Shore Lines: The Story Of Hawaii Five-0, Season 2 and a special interactive Crime Scene Locator map, this set is sure to please any old or new Hawaii Five-0 fan. If you love suspenseful, action-filled police drama with a good dose of humorous interplay between the main characters, Hawaii Five-O: The Second Season will be perfect for you. Check it out for yourself today!

I am a fan of Hawaii Five-0, but had no idea that it was originally shown during the 70′s. I’m done watching the second season, and I hate how it ended. Makes you want to jump right into the 3rd season!
lol! Don’t you hate it when shows do that? My must-see is Supernatural and I always get crazy when the season ends!
Mine’s White Collar. Have you seen it? It’s one of the greatest shows ever! I recommend it to everybody I know, and I’d like to recommend it to you! =)
Thanks for the tip; I’ll definitely check it out!
I’ve been a fan of Hawaii Five-0 since they remade it a few years ago. I haven’t finished watching the second season, but my kids recorded it on our Hopper DVR. The Hopper has tons of recording space so it can store the entire season and I can watch it at my own pace. When I get off work at DISH I’m going to start working my way through season two, and if I like it I’ll buy the Blu-ray discs (my son would be thrilled). I might have to check out the original series too, since your husband and a bunch of my friends say it’s just as good if not better than the remake.
The Hopper sounds amazing! I do that with my favourite shows streaming from the Internet sometimes; it’s so nice not to have to stick to the network’s schedule! I agree…I’m thinking I need to check out this original series!
Definitely! And since everyone is so busy these days it’s nice to have TV recording capability and lots of hard drive space, along with those internet TV sites. It’s so much more convenient. Now I just need to find someone to watch the original Hawaii Five-0 with me. I’m sure I can convince someone…
