There are times when I want a gift to be extra special. Not just a store-bought toy, a generic home accessory or a gift card but something that will make the recipient say, “WOW!” when the wrapping is torn away, a gift that can be treasured for years to come.
What a Jewel, a sensational online boutique based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, understands that there are some occasions that require a very special present. And with unique gift choices for babies, children, women and even pets, the shop is sure to have something that will bring that look of surprised delight to the lucky recipient’s eyes. I was delighted when I got the chance to review some of What a Jewel’s newest products, Artburn T-Shirt Painting Kits and Pillowcase Painting Kits. I saved these fun kits for my oldest son’s first day of school and then gave one to each of my boys as a first-day-of-school present.
I let Benjamin complete his Pillowcase Painting Kit while his big brother was at school. The kits are recommended for ages four and up but I knew that with supervision, Benjamin would be just fine painting the pillowcase on his own. Like most little brothers, he’s been working as hard as he can to be just like his big brother so his painting skills are actually quite good. He didn’t worry too much about which colours he used but he did work very hard at staying in the lines and I was so impressed with the way he filled the different sections of the pillowcase with colour.
The message on the Magic Pillowcase was so wonderful too. The text in the centre reads, “My Magic Pillowcase of Sweet Dreams.” A pattern of stars decorates the text and small graphics around the central design give kids reminders that they are safe and loved. Once the pillowcase was dry, I ironed the painting as instructed to set the colours and then put it on Benjamin’s pillow. And tonight he actually fell asleep sprawled directly on top of it!
Zackary completed his T-Shirt Painting Kit when he returned home from school after his first day of Grade One. These shirts come in a fun variety of designs and I had chosen the train design for his shirt. He did such a careful job painting details onto the train and when he was done, he even added a blue sky and a sun to the top of the picture! I loved the way the kit inspired his creativity.
What a Jewel wants you to see for yourself how many fabulous gifts its boutique has to offer, so the store is very generously offering one lucky Mommy Kat and Kids reader a $50 gift certificate! To enter to win, just visit What a Jewel and leave a blog comment about what you would buy if you won!
Overall, the Artburn Pillowcase Painting Kit and T-Shirt Painting Kit were definitely the type of “WOW!” gift that I love and my boys had a wonderful time creating something that they could use afterwards for months and years to come. If you want a gift that will be joyfully received and loved for a lifetime, check out the selection of gifts at What a Jewel and find the perfect present for your loved ones!
