One of the things that always impresses and amazes me about the youth of today is their passion to create a better world right now. From the current trend of having birthday parties in which charitable donations are collected instead of presents to the many social activism clubs being launched in schools across North America, the desire of our young people to change the world is absolutely inspiring. And since 2007, Free the Children, a youth-driven charity founded by Craig and Marc Kielburger, has rewarded that concept and inspired the youth of North America to achieve even more at annual We Day events.
This year, Telus Mobility is a national sponsor of the event and for the first time ever, We Day is coming to Saskatchewan! What makes this event so special is that tickets to the event aren’t purchased. Instead, they are rewarded to youth activists and youth organizations in the cities in which the events are held. This year, on February 27, 2013, I am being given the chance to attend We Day in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and I can’t wait to gain learning and inspiration not just from the speakers and performers but from the youth of Saskatchewan themselves.
Telus Mobility very generously provided me with a Samsung Galaxy III to record my experience so keep your eyes out for an article about We Day Saskatchewan sometimes in early March. And because Telus wants everyone to be able to capture and share once-in-a-lifetime moments like We Day, the company is very generously offering one lucky Mommy Kat and Kids reader their very own Samsung Galaxy Ace II X smartphone, a $250 value! With a 5MP camera, access to over 500,000 apps through the Google Play Store and a low price point, this is a perfect “starter” smartphone for your tween or teen and is a great inexpensive choice for adults too! To enter to win, just leave a blog comment about a charitable action you or your family supports.
I could not be more excited to experience the excitement of We Day for myself and I know that the youth of Saskatchewan will do the province proud at this monumental event. After all, a recent Statistics Canada report shows Saskatchewan as having the highest volunteer rate in all of Canada! And the fact that Telus is a national sponsor of the event makes me even happier that I chose the company for my cellular plan. So visit the We Day website to learn how you can support this life-changing event too. And make sure to check back for my coverage of We Day after February 27! There’s not a doubt in my mind that the experience will blow me away.

We support several local charities, but the two I’m most closely involved with are theatre groups that both reach out to the community. One (YPC) focuses on children, and the other is where I met my husband and where I teach theatre to kids. I love helping locally, and being able to bring arts to the community.
