Festive Mexican Layered Dip Makes a Perfect Holiday Appetizer

I am a huge fan of holiday food and while I’ve got a special place in my heart for Christmas sweets and treats of all kinds, I have to admit that as an adult, there’s another type of holiday food that I love even more…appetizers! In fact, our family’s Christmas Eve tradition is to put out big trays of assorted appetizers in the late afternoon and snack on them all night long until bedtime.

Considering how much I love appetizers, it goes without saying that I’ve got quite a few recipes that are favourites not just with me, but with everyone that samples them. From decadent crab and cream cheese stuffed mushrooms to homemade oven-baked hot wings, there’s no shortage of appetizer options in this house! But one of my all-time favourite recipes, both because of its ease and its popularity, is this Festive Layered Mexican Dip!

What appeals to me so much about this recipe is how festive it is. With the red salsa, green guacamole and fresh red and green veggies on top, it’s a feast for the eyes as well as the mouth. And of course, nobody can resist the way the spicy flavours are complimented by the blend of sour cream and decadent Philadelphia cream cheese! For those that love spicing things up even more, consider exchanging the regular cream cheese for Philadelphia Jalapeno Cream Cheese!

With holiday party season quickly approaching, having a good stock of tasty appetizer recipes on hand just makes sense. And if you’re looking for some inspiration, Kraft Canada has tons of amazing Party Appetizer Recipes that you’ll want to check out! In fact, I found one of my other all-time favourite recipes, Crispy Coconut Shrimp, in the site’s recipe collection!

Want to host your own appetizer party? Plan on six hot appetizers and six cold appetizers per person, and make as many of the appetizers in advance as possible. Stuffed mushrooms can be prepared and stored in the fridge in the morning, then baked right before the party. And most dips can be made a day before the party. This Layered Mexican Dip is a perfect example; just sprinkle the fresh chopped veggies on top right before serving so they stay crisp. Then kick back, relax and enjoy some serious appetizer indulgence with family and friends. With recipes from Kraft Canada, appetizers couldn’t be easier!

  1. Appetizer parties are my favourite! In fact, we’re planning one for this weekend! This dip would go over really well so I’m pinning it!

This looks so good but I’m afraid I can’t eat spicy food. Most of my adult children would be all for this though, where they get their appreciation of spicy food I just don’t know.

    1. Haha, Elizabeth! With regular cream cheese, this is actually a pretty mild dip. But I know the feeling with spicy food; I don’t mind it occasionally but my guy…I sometimes can’t see his food through the hot sauce! Lol

  3. I have made basically this exact dip before (but have never thought to use flavored cream cheese!!) and it is a hit – never a spoonful left at the end of the night :)

  4. Love layered dips and especially Mexican style ones… Perfect for the holidays and feeding a crowd; I find its always easiest to have these types of appies at parties. AND I love appies.
