Handle Spring Fever Restlessness with 3 Easy Tips

In less than a week, the first day of spring will be here! And as a confirmed lover of sunshine, green grass and warm temperatures, I could not be happier. But at the same time, I’m also finding that I’m a little more restless than usual and have a much harder time getting to sleep each night. It’s a feeling that I think of as spring fever, and from the way my boys are acting lately, I’m not the only one that’s feeling it! But getting through the changing season is a lot easier with a few simple tips! These are the three ways I make sure my family is as calm, cool and relaxed as possible through the first few energy-filled weeks of spring!

1) Run it Off

In Saskatchewan, springtime doesn’t necessarily mean the snow has melted and the grass is green. In fact, there’s been snow on the ground until almost May for the last few years! This year we’ve had unseasonably warm weather, which means getting outside is easier. But even when the weather is nasty, burning off some of that extra energy with a brisk walk or jog does wonders to keep me calm and relaxed. On a nice day, I’ll take the boys outside and we’ll explore the neighbourhood together. When the weather is too cold and miserable, I’ll just put on some relaxing music, hop on the treadmill and walk for 30 minutes. But either way, I feel happier, healthier and much more relaxed when I’m done.

2) Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Proper sleep during those first days of spring fever is something that’s surprisingly hard for me to accomplish. I find that I toss and turn for hours, don’t sleep soundly when I do finally drift off and then bounce awake before dawn. As a result, I’m then more irritable during my already restless waking hours. And my boys sometimes react to spring the same way…a few nights ago Zackary woke up every two hours from 8pm until 6am! That’s why Orange Naturals Sleep homeopathic and Sleep Tight for kids homeopathic are my secret weapons for dealing with restless spring nights. Just a dose before bed helps us fall asleep quicker and sleep more soundly thanks to gentle, effective natural herbs including Valerian root and passionflower.

3) Sniff to Serenity

Scents can have a powerful impact on mood and when I’m in a springtime fret, the right scent can instantly have a positive effect on my emotions and help me accomplish more throughout my day. When I need to relax, anything with the scent of lavender helps me instantly decompress. I love mixing a few drops of lavender essential oil into a nice organic lotion in the morning and smoothing it on for an all-day effect. And when I’m irritable and lethargic, a citrus scent such as orange or lemon perks me up and puts a smile on my face again. Sometimes, that can be as simple as opening up the bottle of lemon juice in the fridge and taking a few sniffs!
