4 Steps to a More Blissful Laundry Routine

Disclosure: I have partnered with YMC and OxiClean and have received compensation for this post. All opinions in the post are my own.

There are plenty of blissful things about my day-to-day life, from that first sip of coffee in the morning to the sight of fresh flowers on my kitchen table. But if there’s one thing I’ve never found all that blissful, it’s laundry! With a husband that works with trains, two active boys and a baby, laundry is one of those chores that feels never-ending at times!

Luckily, with a few little tricks, even the most endless and exhausting chores can become a little more blissful! And so, I’ve put together four sure-fire ways to make doing the laundry just a little more fun. It may never be your favourite chore, but these tips will make it a lot more tolerable!

1) Sort and Treat Early On

Trying to cram all the sorting, stain-treating, washing, drying and folding into one day is overwhelming! Instead, break up the jobs to give yourself a bit of a break. Start by sorting clothes and treating stains with OxiClean™ MaxForce™ Foam Pre-Treater. Not only is no scrubbing required, the foam will keep working for days to tackle even the toughest stains. In other words, leaving those clothes for a day or two before washing will actually result in cleaner clothes!

2) Scent it Up

Folding clothes is my least favourite thing about doing laundry, but it’s a lot more pleasant when the clothes have a soothing scent that I love. To ensure my clothes smell addictively sweet, I just put a few drops of essential oil onto a clean washcloth and toss it into the dryer with the clothes. The oil adds just the right amount of scent and I love that I can use different oils to suit my current mood.

3) Get the Kids Involved

The best way to make laundry more tolerable? Do less of it! Getting kids involved in the laundry process might mean being a little more accepting of things like imperfectly folded clothes or mismatched socks. But after seeing how much extra time you gain for yourself, you’ll be only too happy to let your kids take over a job or two. Younger children can help load and unload the washing machine, older children can fold and put away clothes, and toddlers can help as they learn by matching and rolling socks!

4) Brighten Up Your Space

There is nothing worse than a dark, dreary laundry room for making laundry feel like a chore. So, finding small ways to brighten up the space will have an instant cheering effect! Try something as simple as adding extra shelves to keep laundry supplies tidy, or as indulgent as splurging on stylish wicker or fabric laundry hampers to replace the standard plastic baskets. Add a pretty picture on the wall to make the space feel welcoming and you’ll be ready to tackle dirty clothes with a smile!

Laundry certainly didn’t get any easier when my boys reached their older school years, though I do get to deal with ink and grass stains instead of spilled juice and diaper malfunctions. But with the right products and techniques, I’m able to keep all our clothes looking great and still keep a smile on my face as I do. Give these tips a try and see how they work for you!
