Looking for some back-to-school entertainment for your kids when they get home after a long day? NCircle Entertainment has some fabulous new DVDs that are sure to make your kids smile! I received a set of four DVDs to review and my boys had a great time watching each and every one.
This year both of my boys are going to going to school. Zackary is entering Grade One so this will be his first year of full school days every day of the week. And Benjamin is starting playschool; it’s only two mornings a week but it will be his first time out of the house on his own.
With both a lunch and a snack to pack during the weekdays, having a good collection of reusable lunch and snack containers is essential to me, so I was very excited when I got the chance to review some of the new products from Thermos Canada this year.
I received a Snak Jar and a Hydration Bottle to review. The Hydration Bottle had a fairly feminine purple print so I decided to claim it for myself. I have to admit, I’ve actually always wanted one of these bottles; with its flip-up lid, handy straw and stylish design, carrying water just doesn’t get any better! I especially loved the way the straw was built into the bottle. I tend to be a bit sloppy drinking out of a regular bottle so having the handy straw always ready to be used was perfect for me. In just a week, my boys will be heading off to school. Where did the summer go? This year is a bit of a monumental one for us; Zackary will be starting Grade One so this will be his first year going to school for a full week and Benjamin will be starting Playschool so this will be his first time in any type of school setting!
While I’m nervous for my boys, the fun of getting ready for back-to-school really helps my boys and me feel excited too. And this year, Visa sent me a $150 gift card so that I could get ready for that important first day with ease!
The first task we had for back-to-school shopping was checking off the items on Zackary’s school supply list. This is one shopping trip that I find easiest to do in an actual store. We started out at the nearby Real Canadian Superstore (Western Canada’s version of Loblaws) and then headed across the street to Walmart for the items we hadn’t been able to find when grabbing groceries. I scored a sweet Angry Birds pencil case for Zackary’s desk and a cute box of Phineas and Ferb bandages for any minor injuries he might have during the school year.[Read more...]
A large, hardcover binder may seem like the perfect choice for your child’s schoolwork, but did you ever think about how heavy that binder is when it’s stuffed into a backpack with half-a-dozen other ones? It’s no wonder that back pain among school-aged children is such a concern.
Fortunately, Wilson Jones has a solution: the new Backpack Binder! These unique binders feature soft, bendable covers and weigh 65% less than a traditional 1” binder. I recently received a package of six binders so that I could check out the back-saving design for myself.
The first thing I noticed about these binders was their colourful designs. The binders are available in both a girl-friendly abstract set featuring pink, green and blue and a sports-themed boy-friendly set in blue and green. I couldn’t imagine any child that wouldn’t be excited to have such colourful binders for their schoolwork. [Read more...]
It’s one of the most exciting days of the year for both parents and kids but it’s also a day that can make kids feel a little insecure and turn parents into complete nervous wrecks. Yes, I’m talking about that monumental first day of school.
It’s only natural to worry about your child when they head out the door. When they’re at home, you can help them when they’re confused, defend them when they’re scared and heal them when they’re hurt. But once they leave the house and enter that classroom full of children, anything can happen. It’s a necessary part of growing up, but that doesn’t make it any less hard on a parent!
That’s why I loved the idea behind the PicturesOnGold Guardian Angel School Protect Double Sided Medal with a 16″ Box Chain. This beautiful pendant features a colour picture of an angel on one side with the words “Guardian Angel Protect Me” around the edge. On the back, the pendant is engraved with the message “Please Protect My Child.” With Zackary starting Grade One this year, I was very excited when I got the chance to review the medal for myself. Like most children, I used to love decorating my new school supplies with doodles, designs and drawings to make them stand out. It was a way to express a bit of my individuality and when I look back at my school supplies from those years, I can see how my style changed. In Grade Eight, I covered everything with colourful, realistic flowers. In Grade Nine I favoured cartoon sketches of kids in bell-bottoms. And in Grade Ten I went through an intense phase that inspired me to draw elaborate worlds of stick men on all my possessions.
Now my oldest son is starting Grade One and he has already shown some great drawing talent. I have a feeling he’ll be spending his teen years doodling away as well and thanks to some great new products from Sharpie®, kids will be able to express themselves like never before! The new Sharpie® Brush Tip permanent markers offer better control, vibrant colours and the ability to create both thin detailed lines and thick brushstrokes to make creating artistic looks even easier. I recently received a few packages of the new Sharpie® Brush Tip markers along with a cute flowerpot mug to decorate and I was so excited to create some art. [Read more...]
When it’s time to start back-to-school shopping, you may notice a few extra additions to the usual list of notebooks, pencils and highlighters. For many classes, a USB flash drive is now an essential classroom item. And with good reason! These handy and portable drives let children easily work on projects both at home and at school, keep track of homework assignments and even submit work without worrying about printing or writing it out.
But a USB drive isn’t just useful; it’s also a great way to let kids express their individuality! From superhero figurines to colourful bracelets, there are so many different styles of flash drives available. This year, Dane-Elec has some fun new styles of flash drives so that your kids can transport their necessary information in style!
