Another year has come to an end and for me, one of the highlights of every year is thinking back on tasty new recipes that I discovered. My boys can be picky eaters, so I spend some time every season looking for new creations that my family will actually eat. And 2012 was full of delicious new recipe discoveries!
Spring Barbequing
In the spring, I kicked off the recipe experimenting with Dr. Pepper Ribs and the meal became the favourite barbeque recipe of the entire family. The tender baby back ribs are precooked in Dr. Pepper and then slathered in a homemade sauce and barbecued. It’s pure mouth-watering goodness and the perfect way to kick off the start of barbeque season. And despite the tender, mouth-watering flavour, the meal is so much healthier than ribs in a restaurant! [Read more...]

But when my boys outgrew baby food, I was left with a number of jars of leftover baby food that I couldn’t use. Fortunately, Earth’s Best Organic has a great idea for those jars of baby food your toddler isn’t eating anymore: cook with them!
We usually used our other Tasty Baker to make pancakes for breakfast so for a change of pace we decided to make vanilla cupcakes for an afternoon treat with the original Tasty Baker. I loved that the Junior Chef Baking Set had all of the necessary baking tools for making the batter in a handy kid-friendly size. Zackary got himself outfitted in the apron and oven mitt and we were ready to whip up our batter.
When I was given the chance to review an item from any of CSN Stores’ over 200 websites, I knew from past experience that I had to have some direction before I started. I pondered and browsed the website before finally deciding that I wanted something great for my kitchen. Our old chopping board was definitely showing some signs of wear (my husband using it to punch snaps onto his vest had something to do with its current state) and the selection of cutting boards at CSN Stores was so incredible that I knew I would be able to find something that would fit my requirements. When I found the Ginsu 7″ Stainless Santoku Knife with Cutting Board Set, I knew I had found what I was looking for.
The only part of the design that is in any way awkward is the fact that when I wash the cutting board, I have to be careful to keep the water away from the knife slot. I definitely don’t want to risk damaging the board or my knife so I find I have to be very careful to keep the space out of the water. It’s a small price to pay for such a great kitchen accessory though, and since most of the time I can just wipe the cutting board with a damp cloth it really isn’t too much of an inconvenience.
