I’ve been a huge fan of Dell products for years now and recently I got the chance to review one of the newly redesigned 2011 Inspiron R series laptops for myself. I often think that the Inspiron computers are the “Mom” computers of the Dell collection. They’re made for families by a company that understands what families need and I couldn’t wait to see if my new Inspiron could give me everything I required in a laptop for such a low price.
The Inspiron R series laptops start at $499 and focus on three key areas to help provide the ultimate home laptop experience: style, entertainment and speed. I received the Inspiron 15R to review and with a 500 GB hard drive, 4 GB of DDR3 RAM and an Intel Core i3 processor, it definitely had some muscle beneath its pretty cover. I couldn’t wait to see if it could handle my almost constant computer use!
The cover, by the way, is one of the most stylish things about this ingenious laptop. The computer itself is available in either black, red or blue but with the gorgeous SWITCH by Design Studio lids, I was able to remove the standard black lid on my laptop and replace it with the Horizontal Purple Lid featuring bold purple stripes or the Shaadi Lid with a tattoo-inspired red and yellow graphic design.
Of course, one of the first things I did after following the easy on-screen prompts to start and set up the computer was to exchange the black top for one of my SWITCH by Design Studio lids. By pressing a release button on the back I was able to slide the black lid forward until it unclipped and could be lifted off. Then I simply placed the Horizontal Purple Lid in place and slid it back until it clicked into place. With just those few steps, I had a gorgeous personalized laptop!
Now that I’d experienced the style of the Inspiron R Series, I really wanted to check out the entertainment features. Dell went all-out with entertainment extras on the Inspiron 15R and I was eager to test them out. From the SRS Premium Surround Sound to the 1.0MP Integrated 1280×720 native HD Webcam to the HD Display to the easy-to-use Dell Stage software, the Inspiron 15R was designed for fun and with so many great features I couldn’t wait to relax and enjoy some downtime on this great laptop!
While the webcam was amazing compared to the standard webcam I had used previously, what really impressed me about the Inspiron R Series was the high definition display and surround sound. The rich and full sound is absolutely amazing and the display is so crystal clear that I even used it to play some incredibly realistic videos of fireworks for my boys on New Year’s Eve!
The Dell Stage software is the icing on the cake as far as entertainment goes. I loved the quick-click icons on the bottom of my screen and the fact that I could access my games, movies and music with a single click was so convenient! This is software that really has to be experienced first-hand before you can appreciate it; the control and convenience are just unbeatable.
All of these amazing features are powered by the very best computer hardware and like every Dell product, the true beauty of the Inspiron 15R isn’t its exterior or its interior…it’s the laptop’s customizability. Need more speed and power? Customize with an Intel Pentium i5 or i7 processor for the ultimate high-tech experience! Are you the ultimate movie fan? Upgrade to the optional Blu-ray drive! By connecting to your 3D TV, you can even enjoy 3D movie playback!
