Spooky Halloween Specials on Disney Junior-Review

October is here and that means kids everywhere have only one thing on their minds…Halloween! Disney Junior understands and for the next month, the preschool-friendly channel is celebrating with special Halloween episodes of all your child’s favourite Disney Junior shows!

disney junior logoHalloween episodes of great shows like Special Agent Oso and Jungle Junction will be shown every Monday in October and the celebration will wrap up on Monday October 31 with an all-day marathon of Halloween episodes and specials! We received a screener DVD containing a few of the new Halloween episodes to review and Zackary and his friend Jocelyn sat down to watch the DVD together.

The DVD we received had Halloween episodes of Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Stella and Sam and Handy Manny. Jocelyn was especially excited to see Jake and the Never Land Pirates; it’s one of her favourite shows! Zackary felt the same way about Handy Manny. He was so delighted to see the special Halloween adventures of Manny and his tools. It was obvious from watching the two kids that Disney Junior’s month-long Halloween celebration was going to have something for everyone to enjoy!

Jake and the Never Land Pirates Yo Ho, Let’s Go Summer! Week on Disney Junior

Zackary loves Disney Junior, but even though I had heard about one of Disney Junior’s newest shows for preschoolers, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, neither one of us had gotten a chance to watch it yet. Fortunately, I was given a chance to review a brand new episode of Jake and the Never Land Pirates, which will be debuting August 15!

jake and the never land pirates logoStarting Monday, Disney Junior will be featuring a marathon of Jake and the Never Land Pirates called Yo Ho, Let’s Go Summer! Week. Every day from August 15 until August 19, Disney Junior will air two back-to-back episodes of Jake and the Never Land Pirates starting at 5:00 pm EST. The marathon kicks off with a show containing two new episodes featuring Tori Spelling as the voice of the Pirate Princess, a new character on the series. I couldn’t wait to watch The Pirate Princess and The Rainbow Wand and I sat down with both of my boys to check out the show.

Jake and the Never Land Pirates stars Jake, his two friends Izzy and Cubby and their parrot Skully. The four friends sail around Never Land solving pirate problems and collecting gold doubloons for their team treasure chest. Captain Hook and Smee are the villains of the series and bumble through the episodes trying to interfere with the quests of the young pirates but more often getting into trouble instead!

Like so many other preschool shows, Jake and the Never Land Pirates is made up of two short episodes that are shown one after the other for a total running time of 30 minutes. I really enjoyed the first episode, The Pirate Princess, because it featured so many classic pirate elements like following a treasure map and solving riddles.

disney junior logoI also appreciated the musical aspect of the show. There are plenty of short songs in every episode, some of which are repeated each show as well as others that are original to a particular episode. I’m always a big fan of incorporating music into television programs and Jake and the Never Land Pirates does this in a big way. The series even features its own band, The Never Land Pirate Band, which sings pirate ditties throughout the shows and wraps up each episode with a live music video!

In addition to the marathon, DisneyJunior.ca will be adding new Jake and the Never Land Pirates activities to its website including direct links to new games and show clips and a detailed schedule of the marathon lineup.

This fun and positive show is a great choice for preschoolers and if you haven’t seen it yet, make sure to mark your calendar for the upcoming Yo Ho, Let’s Go Summer! Week. It’s the perfect time to introduce your kids to Disney Junior’s newest television show and let them sail away with Jake and his friends!
