This Quick Mexican Toss Pasta Salad Recipe Makes Entertaining Easy #LMDConnector

One of the things I love about summer is how much easier it is to entertain. We live in a fairly small house so hosting gatherings in the colder months can be tricky simply because we don’t have a lot of room for people to circulate. But our yard is huge, green and perfect for relaxing outside with family and friends. Even the party food is often as easy as lighting up the barbeque or pulling out a hearty cold salad made earlier in the day!

Recently I was browsing the Life Made Delicious website for new fresh ideas for summer entertaining and the Zesty Corn and Pasta Salad recipe reminded me of one of my own favourite summer pasta salad recipes: Mexican Toss Pasta Salad. This easy salad is hearty enough to act as a main dish on a warm summer day, but it’s also a fabulous party side dish or potluck contribution!

Dairy Queen is one of those restaurants that tends to make me feel instantly nostalgic. I think it’s because, as a child, I knew as soon as I entered a Dairy Queen I was going to get to enjoy a delicious ice cream treat. Even if my family had stopped there for lunch, going to Dairy Queen and not getting ice cream simply wasn’t an option! As a result, walking into Dairy Queen results in a flood of memories for me. I used to love ordering a Kids Meal, which came with my choice of DQ treat for dessert. (I always chose the ice cream sandwich.) And when I was in high school, every band trip involved at least one stop at Dairy Queen. My all-time favourite indulgence on those occasions was a hot fudge sundae made with mint chip ice cream.

Of course, one of the most memorable items on the Dairy Queen menu is the DQ Ice Cream Cake! With a birthday in January, I didn’t really get to enjoy these for my birthday, unlike my brother, with a birthday in October and my sister, who was born in June. One of the things I love about spring is that time after the snow has melted and there is green grass and new little flowers everywhere. Here in Saskatchewan, that’s not something we get to enjoy in March too often. And this year has been especially miserable with the snow still taller than me out in the yard and temperatures that have only just started to reach the melting point in the last day or two.

I may not be able to enjoy green grass and sweet smelling flowers for another month or two, but spring is here and I want to celebrate! So I decided to create some fun little cupcakes for the family that captured the things I most love about spring. Taking my inspiration from the recipe for Spring Flower Brownies on the Life Made Delicious website, I treated my boys to Easy Spring Flower Cupcakes!

There are many people that love their peanut butter and if you’re one of those folks that could happily spread peanut butter on anything and everything, General Mills has some delicious news for you! For a limited time, Canadians can enjoy the great taste of new Peanut Butter Cheerios for breakfast! My boys are both huge peanut butter fans and so when I got the chance to review a fun Peanut Butter Cheerios pack, I couldn’t wait to see what Zackary and Benjamin would think.

The pack included an assortment of fun breakfast and lunch goodies including spoons, bowls and a cereal container as well as two boxes of the new Peanut Butter Cheerios. Even though we don’t pick up the mail until late afternoon, Zackary still begged to try a bowl right away. I eventually convinced him that he needed to wait for morning and he was ready and waiting the next day to dig into his bowl of cereal!

The smell of peanut butter was noticeable as soon as I opened the box and I couldn’t help but be reminded of a fresh and tender peanut butter cookie. Fortunately, this cereal has a lot more nutritional value than one of my home-baked cookies does! With whole grain and just 100 calories per serving, it’s a nutritious breakfast choice as well as a delicious one. [Read more...]

A Year of Good Eating-My Favourite Recipes of 2012 #LMDConnector

Another year has come to an end and for me, one of the highlights of every year is thinking back on tasty new recipes that I discovered. My boys can be picky eaters, so I spend some time every season looking for new creations that my family will actually eat. And 2012 was full of delicious new recipe discoveries!

Spring Barbequing

In the spring, I kicked off the recipe experimenting with Dr. Pepper Ribs and the meal became the favourite barbeque recipe of the entire family. The tender baby back ribs are precooked in Dr. Pepper and then slathered in a homemade sauce and barbecued. It’s pure mouth-watering goodness and the perfect way to kick off the start of barbeque season. With Christmas just around the corner, our little house is pretty busy as we juggle school, work, extra-curricular activities and holiday preparation. All that hustle and bustle means that I need dinner ideas that are fast and simple to prepare. So what do I do to make dinnertime easy? I turn to the freezer!

There are so many great meals that can be prepared in advance and frozen for later and to find one that appealed to me, I headed to the Life Made Delicious website. I had a great time perusing different recipes with the potential to be prepared, frozen and cooked later when needed.

Eventually I found the Tomato Basil Meat Loaves recipe. I knew at once that this was a recipe that could be easily modified to suit my family so I switched the Italian flavours out for Western ones to create a dinner that I knew my boys would enjoy.

I love to bake, but the timing never seems to be quite right for me to bake as much as I would like. In the summer, our century-old house holds heat like an oven making baking virtually impossible. And in the fall, busy school routines take up so much time that I never seem to have an uninterrupted hour to make goodies for my boys. I still get a treat or two whipped up about once a week, but that’s not nearly as often as I would like!

So what’s an overworked mom to do? Pillsbury has the answer with its new Chocolate Crescents! Most Canadians are already big fans of flaky and delicious Pillsbury Crescents and now the home-baked treat that’s ready in minutes is even more irresistible. As a Life Made Delicious Connector, I sometimes have the chance to learn about the newest happenings at General Mills and when I heard the news that Yoplait yoghurt had joined the General Mills family of products, I had to celebrate! Yoplait is one of my family’s very favourite brands of yoghurt; my youngest loves Yoplait Minigo, my oldest adores Yop and I can’t get enough Yoplait Asana! And when I’m buying for all three of us, we all enjoy the exotic flavours of the Yoplait Creamy Tropical yoghurt. In fact, we have a case of it in our fridge right now!
