Stellar Performances, Special Effects and Leather Pants Make Stars on Ice a Hit

Figure skating is such a beautiful sport. The combination of athletic ability, breathtaking tricks and beautiful choreography captivates me every time and I love watching a really good show. Recently Jergens offered me the chance to check out the Saskatoon performance of Stars on Ice featuring some of Canada’s most popular and talented figure skaters including Patrick Chan, Ashley Wagner and the incredible Kurt Browning, my favourite figure skater ever since I watched him win the World Championships when I was just a child.

But as much as I would have loved to attend, the two-hour drive was a bit much to manage and I knew that my mother and sister would appreciate the experience even more since my sister used to be a figure skater herself. My mother, Sharlee and her good friend Hannah were thrilled to head to the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon to check out the show and the girls loved it so much, they couldn’t stop talking about it! As a former vegetarian, I love the taste and the health benefits of lentils. They are a great meat alternative since they’re packed with protein and they’re also full of fibre, something that most Canadians are seriously lacking in their diet. Best of all, they are one of the top crops here in my own home province of Saskatchewan. That’s why I was so excited to hear about the new Love Your Lentils recipe contest!

There are three different ways to enter. If you’re a blogger, create your own original lentil recipe and submit it on the Love Your Lentils site. If you’re a home cook, whip up one of Canadian chef Michael Smith’s recipes and add your own unique twist. This Thursday and Friday, the first musical featuring the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber and the lyrics of Tim Rice, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, is coming to Regina thanks to DIWC! Do It With Class Young People’s Theatre Company (DIWC) is Saskatchewan’s only pre-professional musical theatre and drama company for children and youth and this weekend they’re bringing the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber to life!

The Overwhelming Experience of BlogWest 2013

I always seem to have a hard time writing about my experiences at blog conferences, but it’s not because I have nothing to say. To the contrary, it’s because I learn so much that I have trouble narrowing down exactly what I want to share. And at no conference do I have a harder time with that than BlogWest. I’ve attended BlogWest 2012 as a panellist and BlogWest 2013 as a speaker and conference ambassador and both times the sheer volume of knowledge I gained left me overwhelmed for weeks afterwards.

There were a few key learning moments from the conference that really started to stand out to me over the last couple of weeks, though. These were my top three BlogWest 2013 takeaways:

Harlem Shake in Small Town Saskatchewan

Living in a town of 1,800 people in the middle of the Saskatchewan prairies doesn’t necessarily make for the most exciting social scene. So what do folks in Lumsden do for fun? They go to the bar and create a Harlem Shake meme, of course!

I hear a lot of jokes about living in a small town in an overlooked province, but it’s things like this that make me proud to be Lumsden born and bred. Seriously, who does things like this?
