It’s hard for me to believe that 2017 is flying by so quickly, but in just a few more days it will be Canada’s 150th birthday celebration! There are all kinds of ways people love to celebrate Canada Day and over the years, I’ve tried most of them. Heading out on the lake for a day of boating, hosting friends in the backyard for a barbeque, joining in a large public celebration in the nearest city…choosing my favourite way to spend July 1 is like choosing my favourite thing about Canada: pretty much impossible!
These days, many men are as involved in fashion as women are. This is great because it means that your significant other may be as interested in looking good and dressing well as you! It also means that there is a lot more choice when it comes to menswear. Every year sees new trends, and 2017 is no exception. As you will see, this year, there is a lot going on in the world of men´s fashion. So, if you want to know what your man can look forward to wearing for the rest of the summer, just read on.
Let’s start with a summer staple – t-shirts. Virtually every man wears them, so it’s not surprising they are a part of most collections. The vast majority of men’s t-shirts from jacamo.co.uk have some sort of design printed on them, which means that they are quite colourful. And as is often the case, sports themed t-shirts dominate. This year, baseball, American football and basketball designs are everywhere, as are US city logos, with New York t-shirts being available in most stores. The majority of retailers are mainly stocking short sleeved t-shirts, while overall lengths have got longer. [Read more…]
When warm June weather finally arrives, I can’t wait to get outside to enjoy it. And whether I’m cracking an ice-cold beer after a day of yard work or sipping a pre-dinner drink as the barbecue heats up, the perfect beverage always makes spending time outdoors even better. Of course, this year I’ve had to give up some of my favourite summer sippers since our new baby is arriving in a little over a month! So, I got to work creating some cocktails that are perfect for summer refreshment both with and without alcohol added!
My family loves tropical fruit flavours, so I decided to combine two of our favourites, strawberry and mango, to create a show-stopping daiquiri that’s tangy, sweet and perfect for a lazy afternoon relaxing on the deck. Making the virgin version of this drink is as simple as leaving out the rum, and when it’s served in stylish drinkware from Wayfair.ca, it’s pretty enough for the poshest summer brunch or evening cocktail party! I try my best to keep up with my usual beauty routine even in the winter, but when you live in a province that sometimes has snow from October to May, that can be hard! That’s why late spring always feels a bit like a renewal for me, as I pull out my favourite skirts, freshen up my look and get ready to spend as much time as possible outdoors in the sunshine. But staying summer fresh can take time…time I’d rather be spending outdoors! That’s why this year, I’m vowing to sleep more and shave, well, never! Seriously! I’m also going dry…dry shampoo that is. Want to know more?
Let’s start with your locks. A good hair day can make all the difference to your look, but spending time shampooing, conditioning and blow drying every morning can leave you frantic and frazzled. My new secret weapon for fabulous hair is Batiste Dry Shampoo. If you haven’t heard of dry shampoo, I suggest you run, not walk, to pick up a can of Batiste. It works to instantly revive oily hair, leaving it looking and smelling clean and fresh. No wet washing required and, most importantly, no blow drying. If I have a few extra minutes to spare, I sometimes re-style my hair, but it’s not necessary. Batiste comes in a variety of fragrances – New Batiste Dry Shampoo Cherry is perfect for summer with top notes of pear, melon, kiwi and wildberry! [Read more…]
Preparing for a new school year means preparing ideas for school lunches that are quick to pack, healthy and tasty enough that my boys will actually eat them! I have a few tried-and-true favourites, but I’m always trying out fun new recipes too. And when I want to add extra flavour to any of my creations, I turn to Summer Fresh!
Summer Fresh hummus, dips and salads are delicious, nutritious and made with fresh, wholesome ingredients that my whole family loves. To be honest, my favourite way to use Summer Fresh products is to just cut up a big plate of fresh vegetables, open up a container of my favourite Avocado Hummus or Three Cheese Dip and dig in! But I do like using the products in other ways too. And this tasty Creamy Greek Chicken Pita is the perfect example of how Summer Fresh can make fall lunches easy and delicious! With only six ingredients and minimal time, I was able to whip up a sandwich the whole family loved!
My family has always been a family that loves our snacks, so I like to make sure I always have a good collection of snack foods on hand. Veggies and dip, cheese, deli meat and crackers are so popular in this house that we’ll often have them for lunch instead of a regular meal! And since I’m a huge fan of rice crackers, I was thrilled when I had the chance to review an assortment of Crunchmaster gluten-free crackers and chips. With tons of different flavours to choose from, deciding which one to try first was no easy task!
Since I especially love multigrain and seed products, I decided that the Crunchmaster Multi-Seed Original crackers would be the first ones I tried. I served them as part of a lunch charcuterie with gourmet cheese and my family’s favourite smoked salami. I loved the way the crackers blended with the meat and cheese flavours and the added crunch made this a snack I couldn’t stop eating! [Read more…]
Last year my fiancé and I took the boys on a trip to Ontario to stay with his family for a few weeks and explore the area. We had a great time visiting zoos, checking out some of Toronto’s top attractions and meeting extended family members. But for me, the highlight of the visit was spending time at the family’s gorgeous cabin on the lake. The location was so peaceful and serene, and there was nothing better than waking up and sitting outside by the water with a steaming cup of coffee, or even going for a morning swim.
Ever since that moment, I’ve dreamed of owning a cottage of my own. But for the average working couple, buying property in cottage country is a costly luxury. A two-bedroom cottage in a prime location currently often sells for half a million dollars or more. More affordable options often mean buying property much further away or taking on a lengthy renovation of a fixer-upper. What’s a family that wants to get away from it all to do?
If there’s one thing I absolutely love, it’s a family vacation. And since my boys are so good on long drives, I have a special fondness for the road trip. There’s just something so freeing about hopping into the car and discovering new destinations that have been waiting just down the highway. Not sure where you want to go? Here are three great adventures to get your mind wandering and maybe inspire your next trip: Quebec City, Haliburton and Tofino. Wondering what each has to offer? Read more below!
1) Tofino, British Columbia
Looking for something truly picturesque? Head to Canada’s surf capital – Tofino. Get your family on a ferry from Vancouver to Nanaimo and drive along the Pacific Rim Highway for a truly breathtaking view of mountains and lakes, along with rainforest. The area is also known for its trees, which grow in spectacular sizes. Some trees are believed to be 1000 years old. [Read more…]
