I strongly believe that natural products are the best choice not just for the environment, but for the human body as well. I have what I consider to be “problem skin,” and I have experimented with different products that can help minimize wrinkles without causing breakouts for almost a decade. When I find a product that causes my skin to flare up horrifically, chances are very good that it’s a product that is heavy on chemicals and artificial compounds. When I try a product that causes minimal reactions or helps heal my skin, the product is almost always comprised of natural ingredients.
Burt’s Bees has been providing discriminating consumers with natural and earth-friendly personal care products for over 25 years. Their amazing lotions, body washes and balms are designed to pamper skin using the best ingredients Mother Nature has to offer. I was elated when I was given the chance to review their products for myself.
I received five fabulous Burt’s Bees products to review. The Radiance Day Crème and Radiance Eye Crème are from the new Radiance Collection that uses Royal Jelly as its featured ingredient. The Chemical-Free Sunscreen SPF 30 provides natural UVA and UVB protection using titanium dioxide as its active ingredient. The luxurious new Nourishing Lip Balm with Mango Butter softens and smoothes lips while providing vitamins and antioxidants. Finally, the Beeswax Lip Balm, Burt’s Bees’ most popular product, provides unparalleled soothing and smoothing power with a combination of beeswax and essential oils.
The first products I introduced into my beauty routine were the Radiance Day Crème and the Radiance Eye Crème. These moisturizing crèmes contain Royal Jelly, which is the food that honeybees feed to the queen. It is thought that Royal Jelly is what gives the queen bee her immense size and long life. I decided to replace my regular moisturizer with the two crèmes for a one-month period to see how my skin reacted.
These crèmes are incredibly rich and luxurious. They have a light floral scent that is distinctive, but not overpowering. I liked that fact that just a dab of Radiance Day Crème provided the perfect amount of moisture for my entire face. After applying the day crème, I put tiny dots of Radiance Eye Crème under each eye and blended it in gently.
Initially, I didn’t notice a huge difference when I switched to the Burt’s Bees products, except perhaps for a bit of extra shine, but after about a week, I found that my skin had an unbelievable glow that I had never had before. My face looked bright and youthful, and my skin tone was so even that I no longer had to wear foundation as part of my makeup routine!
I did notice that after a few days I had some breakouts on my forehead, so I decided to minimize the crème that I applied. Instead of dabbing it onto my cheeks, forehead, nose and chin, I just applied it to my cheeks, rubbed it in and then spread the remainder of the crème on my T zone. This method let me give my forehead, nose and chin just a touch of moisture without having to later battle breakouts. Dryer skin would definitely benefit from the quick-absorbing richness of this crème and, with a little care, even acne-prone skin like mine can reap the benefits of Royal Jelly.
The next Burt’s Bees product I tested was the Chemical-Free Sunscreen SPF 30. The sunscreen had a great slightly sweet scent that I absolutely loved, and it absorbed quickly and easily into my skin. Many sunscreens claim to be non-greasy, but this sunscreen is absolutely the least greasy sunscreen I have ever used, natural or otherwise. After a long, hot day outside, I also knew that it was just as effective as its chemical counterparts. I enjoyed hours of sweet summer sunshine out on the lake after spreading the sunscreen over my arms and face liberally. When I returned home, I realized that I had forgotten to put sunscreen on my back. It was red and sore, but my face and arms were fine, and provided ample proof that Burt’s Bees sunscreen had the power to protect.
The final products I used were the amazing Burt’s Bees lip balms. The luxurious new Nourishing Lip Balm with Mango Butter was so deliciously smooth and smelled unbelievable. For two weeks I slicked on this balm every morning before I walked out the door. I loved how soft it made my lips feel, and the addictively sweet mango scent was unbelievable. The light shine of the balm made it a great daytime substitute for lip-gloss as well.
I thought it was the best lip balm I had ever used…until I tried the Beeswax Lip Balm and realized that choosing a favorite would be almost impossible. This delicious tingly lip balm combines beeswax, coconut oil and peppermint oil to provide an unbelievably delicious and soothing sensation that is just unbelievable.
Overall, I loved all of the Burt’s Bees products that I received. The natural ingredients were kind to my skin and incredibly effective. I am so happy to know that the beauty benefits I gain from products are obtained without damaging the earth as well. Thankfully, when you are using a Burt’s Bees product, beauty and eco-friendliness go hand in hand every time!
