Holiday Gift for Tween Girls
Tween girls are notoriously hard to shop for. Not quite teenagers and not really children, finding something that a tween girl loves can really create a challenge. In the future, I won’t have to face the agony of hunting for the perfect girly gift, but with a twelve-year-old sister to shop for, I am all too familiar with the pickiness of this age group. Scholastic has a great solution with its Klutz® activity books. The books are designed for all ages and genders, and the company offers an unbelievable collection of activity books that any tween girl is sure to love. I was given the chance to look over a few of the books designed for girls between 8 and 13 and as a permanent child at heart, I couldn’t wait to get started.
This activity book was so much fun! The pages are incredibly interactive and feature activities like love compatibility and secret name wheels. The very first page was a fun fortune telling activity that I couldn’t wait to test out. By counting out the letters of my name, I was told I would learn my future city of residence, home, career, pet, vehicle, number of children and first letter of my spouse’s name. When I used my full name, the results were nowhere near accurate, but surprisingly, when I used my nickname (I’ve been Katy to friends and family since the day I was born) I found quite a few parallels between the results and my life! Okay, my house may not technically be a castle, but it’s one to me! And both my number of children and my spouse’s initial were accurate!
This book was packed full of fun activities and I tried every single one. I analyzed my signature style, calculated my chance of true love with my husband, and learned my candy name is Peanut Butter Pucker Suckers. I also discovered that since my first name starts with a K, I am confident and sometimes come off as a bit of a know-it-all. (Oh, I am so guilty of this!) As the icing on the cake, the book contained all of the materials to make five adorable personalized charms!
I thoroughly enjoyed The Truth About My Name, and picked up Doodle Journal with an equal amount of anticipation. Doodle Journal, which includes a stylish gel pen for doodling, is such a great concept for a book because it encourages so much individual creativity. There are lots of prompts for scribbles and plenty of opportunities to create completely unique doodles as well.
I loved the little inspirational quotes that were scattered throughout the book, and the section on Groodling (or group doodling) was absolutely brilliant! With an outline divided into three different sections, three people can each decorate one section unseen by the others to create a unique group creation. I also loved the idea of doodling to music that you love, and then to music you hate. What a neat way to learn about the impact music can have on our actions!
I was very impressed with both of the Klutz® activity books from Scholastic, and I can’t imagine any tween girl not loving them. The Truth About My Name is the type of book that a girl would be sure to carry all over the schoolyard as she read her friend’s fortunes and told them their secret Vampire names. Doodle Journal is a more personal book and would probably be carefully kept private to be enjoyed only by the owner. But both books are sure to be a great gift choice for any tween girls on your Christmas list, and Scholastic offers many more fantastic Klutz® activity books too!
