The process is complete, and Mommy Kat and Kids is now comfortably settled in with WordPress! The migration was surprisingly easy, though moving the sidebar widgets and finding a theme that worked well with my blog took a bit of time. There are still a few minor issues I will be trying to work out today (I don’t want my list of Current Giveaways to be alphabetized, for example) but for the most part, the blog is set up the way I want it and, as far as I know, fully functional.

I will create a longer post about the process complete with links to the various resources I used in a few days, and then Mommy Kat and Kids will be diving back into reviews and giveaways the first week of January!

If you run into any problems with the website, please let me know and I’ll try to get them dealt with immediately. Thanks so much to all my readers for your patience during the move, and a special thank you to the readers that offered their support and good wishes!

  1. Yes, congrats on a successful switch, Kathryn! As someone who is not so ‘social networking savvy’, I would certainly appreciate some kind of tutorial (including re your giveaways … I find these so confusing). Once thing I’ve noticed today is that I’ve had to shut down repeatedly since this new site seems to hang up my computer, and also uses up my virtual memory really quickly … Is there something that can be done about that so that I don’t have to wait until a new computer is in my budget to participate? Thanks!

    1. Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that! I started looking into this as soon as I read your comment, and I think I might have found a few things that could help. I’ll give them a try and see if it makes a difference, and keep looking for some other solutions as well. And I’ll definitely include a giveaway tutorial in future plans! :)

  2. I’m glad you got it switched over! Good job! :)
I also wanted to thank you for not limiting the comment speed as so many other wordpress bloggers do – it’s so much nicer this way! Thanks again!

    Happy New Year! :)

      1. A huge thanks to Melissa Jackson for giving me the heads-up on this before I moved! Since I knew beforehand it would be an issue, I went searching for a solution right away. The plugin is called Disable Check Comment Flood for those that also hate this feature and don’t know how to deactivate it.

  3. Glad you got it all figured out!

What did you use to forward posts to the appropriate post? I have only figured out how to get mine to forward to my new site homepage so people need to search for the post they were reading.

    1. Oh, you’re going to love this, Missy! It’s a plugin called Maintain Blogger Permalinks and when you activate it, it searches for all the broken blogger links on your blog and fixes them automatically! Now I did this right after I moved, which probably helped, but it worked like a charm so hopefully it will work for you too. If not, another helpful plugin is Redirection. It takes a bit more work, but it lets you track broken links and then you can enter the correct URL to forward them. That’s also how I transfered my RSS, btw!

    1. GFC was one of my major concerns too. It took some hunting to find out how to transfer it, and I’m so glad that it worked like it was supposed to! RSS was the one I was less concerned about and it actually gave me more trouble! I think it’s just because the information has to update across the internet (or propagate, as the techies say) but we’ll see!
