Dora the Explorer: It’s Haircut Day! DVD-Review and Giveaway

When my oldest son was a baby, he was pretty much born with a full head of hair. And despite the rumours that newborn hair falls out, he kept every strand of hair on his head and then added even more. By the time he celebrated his first birthday, he had already had more than a dozen haircuts courtesy of Mommy. But that didn’t make the first trip to the barber any less monumental. (Amusingly, Zackary’s baby brother is so devoid of hair that I will be surprised if he needs a haircut before his fifth birthday!)

dora the explorer its haircut day coverA child’s life is full of firsts and every one is so special. The latest Dora the Explorer DVD, Dora the Explorer: It’s Haircut Day! celebrates a few of those special firsts in life. Here’s a brief synopsis:

It’s time for some big Dora “firsts” – your first visit to a barbershop with Boots, the twins’ first birthday, your first time riding Pegaso, and more! Vamanos!

Zackary and Benjamin sat down to watch this DVD together and the two of them made such a cute picture side-by-side on the couch. I had to laugh at the crazy hair of some of the characters in the first episode, Dora’s Hair-Raising Adventure. From Boots’ wild spaghetti-like strands to the grumpy troll’s overgrown beard, there were definitely some people in desperate need of haircuts in this show!

The next episode chronicled the first birthday party of Dora’s baby brother and sister and was obviously Zackary’s favourite episode on the DVD. He loved comparing the babies to his own baby brother and he cheerfully updated me with his observations as he made comments like, “The babies said, ‘Gracias,’ Mom!” and “The boy baby said, ‘I like bananas!’ Our baby can’t say that!”

Both boys enjoyed the DVD and had a great time watching the four separate adventures of Dora and Boots. Even though Zackary is a little bit too old for actively participating in the show and Benjamin is a little too young, they both enjoy watching the episodes even without any active participation. I like the positive and upbeat themes of the show as well as the important morals that are always emphasized in the adventures.

Overall, this DVD was lots of fun for my boys and would be a great choice for preschool-aged kids or younger. If your kids like Dora, they’ll be sure to enjoy this 95-minute DVD of Dora experiencing things for the first time. The DVD will be available to purchase on May 3, so keep your eyes open for this fun compilation of Dora the Explorer episodes!

  1. A big first for us was when my hubby and I saw our 8 month old moving his high chair forward. Afterward he was cruising around everywhere!
