Every true tea lover knows that the best tea is loose-leaf tea. Teabags are a great solution for speed, ease and convenience, but the rich, well-developed flavour of loose-leaf tea just can’t be imitated by a teabag. There are a few reasons that this is the case. The first one is that often, the leaves in teabags are broken into small pieces, which lets the essential oils and flavour of the leaf evaporate. The second is simply that, of course, the water can do a better job of hydrating the leaf and releasing the flavour when it can circulate properly around the tealeaves, something that can only be achieved with loose-leaf tea.
I adore tea and I’ve experienced for myself how much better of a flavour loose-leaf tea provides, but I often used tea bags despite my knowledge simply because they were so much more convenient than trying to make a cup of loose leaf tea. I had a few tea balls that I used at home, but in a way they affected the flavour of the tea as well by interfering with water circulation. And as for taking a cup of loose-leaf tea out of the house…forget about it!
Then I learned about the Libre tea travel cup. This incredible container was designed to let tea connoisseurs enjoy the great rich flavour of loose-leaf tea anytime and anywhere. I was given the chance to review the Libre glass ‘n poly original travel cup and the company’s fabulous Ming Mei organic loose-leaf green tea for myself and I couldn’t wait to get started and see how the cup worked.
When the cup arrived, the first thing I noticed was how unbelievably beautiful it was. The BPA-free polycarbonate exterior provides on-the-go durability and the glass interior ensures a fresh taste. The container has a stainless steel bottom and top and the lid has the most beautiful and detailed picture of flowers done in gold. I pulled the cup out of the box and examined it to see how it worked. The design is simple, but brilliant. Instead of one lid, the Libre travel cup has two screw-on tops that are used together to allow the owner to brew loose-leaf tea that is fully portable.
The first lid contains an indented mesh screen that lets water filter through without picking up any other particles from the tea. The second lid seals the cup for easy brewing and portability. The clever design meant that I could brew my tea in one of two ways. I could put the leaves directly in the cup, fill it with water and sip it through the lid with the mesh screen. Or, I could place the tealeaves in the top of the screen and turn the cup upside down to brew the tea, thus ensuring that my tea didn’t get too strong for my taste. The section containing the mesh lid is about an inch deep so there is still plenty of room for water to circulate when brewing tea this way. Since I know that the more green tea steeps, the more health benefits it provides I decided to put the tealeaves directly in the cup. I added hot water, screwed on the two lids and let my tea steep for about five minutes. Just like that, my tea was ready to drink, or to carry wherever I needed to go!
The flavour of the Ming Mei tea was incredible; it was fresh and grassy with a hint of citrus and was the perfect energizing pick-me-up for the afternoon. With a touch of honey for sweetness, it was just fabulous!
The Libre travel cups are available in the original design, a large version and a mug version with a convenient handle. All of the travel containers feature the fabulous double-lid design and the poly ‘n glass composition that provides such convenient portability and durability. And for those that mainly enjoy their tea in their home or office, there is even a Libre glass ‘n glass cup! I love how easy taking my tea out of the house has become and as a result, I find that I’m now drinking tea instead of coffee much more often, which is wonderful! If you love tea and haven’t tasted the difference that using loose-leaf tea makes to the flavour of your cup, you should definitely give loose-leaf tea a try. And with the Libre tea travel cup, you won’t lose your mobility when you do. Check it out for yourself!
