Now that spring is finally here, I am starting to say goodbye to the classic accessories that I use in the fall and winter so that I can introduce some bolder and more unique pieces into my wardrobe. Spring is such a bright and cheerful season that I love to celebrate its arrival with fun, warm-weather accessories.
This spring, I learned about Mystic Knotwork, an incredible store that offers some of the most original spring and summer accessories I have ever seen. The store is run by Matt and Jill Beaudoin, who use traditional sailor knot techniques to create gorgeous bracelets, anklets and necklaces. The couple’s bracelets are sold as heirlooms and souvenirs in museums and gift shops across Southern New England as well as through their online store and I was delighted when I received a chance to review the bracelets for myself.
I chose the Carbon Copy Sailor Bracelet Set to review. This set of two bracelets features one charcoal cotton cord bracelet accented with white and one white cotton cord bracelet accented with charcoal. I loved the idea of having a matching, yet contrasting set of bracelets for a couple and requested the black bracelet in Large for my husband and the white bracelet in Medium for myself.
When the bracelets arrived, I couldn’t wait to see how they looked. The first thing that struck me about the bracelets was their width. They were almost an inch wide, which made the bracelet look nicely masculine on my husband’s wrist and added a bold and striking touch to my own look. The knotwork is so ingeniously done that the bracelet seems to intertwine in one continuous loop. In addition to being a striking nautical accessory with its clever design, it also works wonderfully as a symbol of love and life since the bracelet has no discernible beginning or end.
The cotton cord makes these sailor bracelets incredibly comfortable to wear and I loved the way that the white and black colours coordinated with all my outfits. The bracelet definitely added a much-needed spring touch to my wardrobe after the long and snowy winter. My husband also loved his bracelet and we both enjoyed having that extra connection to one another throughout the day. I did find that since the bracelet was made of fabric, it became a little dirty over time since I wore it almost constantly. However, after I gently washed the exterior of the bracelet with mild unscented dish soap and let it dry, it was as good as new once again!
Mystic Knotwork offers their bracelets with both cotton and satin cord accents in a variety of colours to suit any wearer. With sizes to fit men, women and children, the entire family can enjoy fun, matching nautical accessories. My husband and I both love our bracelets from Mystic Knotwork and since both of my children enjoy pulling my bracelet off my wrist and putting it on themselves, I think we may have to get a bracelet for each of the boys as well! If you are looking for an inexpensive and unique way to dress up your wardrobe this summer, check out the great accessories at Mystic Knotwork for yourself.

I learned that Matthew Beaudoin, who now continues the traditional skill of turning cord into art, is the grandson of the original creator, his grandfather Alton.
