Almost every week I am offered the chance to review a CD from a fabulous children’s musician and almost every week I eagerly agree. I love the fact that today’s children’s music is usually just as much fun for parents as it is for kids and finding new musicians to delight and entertain my children is something that I revel in.
My latest musical review was the fabulous children’s CD Super Kids from Music with Marnie. Marnie Grey, the talent behind the CD, has a gift for creating high-energy and fun-filled songs that kids are sure to love, but she doesn’t just stop there! With an entourage of fun characters including a mischievous monkey and an oversized mosquito, she has created engaging music videos and an interactive website that are sure to delight children of all ages.
While I waited for Super Kids, the fourth CD from Music with Marnie, to arrive I spent some time playing on the website. Zackary loved the games that were set to some of Marnie’s songs and I loved the hilarious videos that helped teach skills like counting and sign language. Hearing some of Marnie’s songs really helped to get me excited about reviewing the CD.
When Super Kids arrived, I was thrilled. Zackary and Benjamin were so excited to see that Marnie had signed the CD to “Super Zackary” and “Super Benjamin” and included a signed photo and stickers for each of them. They especially loved the adorable Mumbu the Monkey, who was featured on the stickers and pictures.
When I put on the CD, Zackary and Benjamin had no idea what to expect but within the first few seconds of the first song on the CD, they were both delightedly dancing away! Super Kids really encourages interaction and the boys both did lots of it throughout the various songs. My favourite moment was probably during the song I Am A Bat, when Marnie encouraged children to act like bats by lying on the ground and putting their feet in the air like they were hanging upside down. Benjamin only picked up part of the instruction and immediately lifted one of his feet up in the air and stayed precariously balanced like that for the rest of the song as he bobbed around!
The boys and I both loved the entire CD. The song Camping Jive had me eagerly anticipating our upcoming camping trip and Poor Little Bug brought back wonderful memories of my dad singing me the same song when I was a child!
The overall trend of the CD is one of celebrating just how super being a child really is and I love the positivity and the fun-loving energy Marnie brings to the songs. And it was clear that my boys loved the CD as much as I did; for weeks afterwards it was the only CD they wanted to hear! Super Kids is an addictively fun CD and a great choice for any family with kids that love to move. Check it out for yourself and dance along with your kids to the fun and fresh tunes of Music with Marnie!
