The iconic red can of Coca-Cola is as well known as the brand itself, and I’ll bet I’m not the only one that couldn’t imagine any other design for a beverage that has been beloved since it was founded in 1886. But this holiday season, the impossible will become possible and the signature red can of Coca-Cola will be switched to white for a very special reason.
Coca-Cola is partnering with the World Wildlife Fund to create the Arctic Home campaign, which will help raise awareness and funds to support the WWF’s efforts to protect the Arctic habitat that polar bears call their home.
Over the next five years, Coca-Cola will be contributing two million dollars to the WWF and will also be matching donations made at iCoke.ca between now and March 15, 2012, up to a total of one million dollars!
I have a hard time imagining a Coca-Cola can that isn’t red, but I can’t imagine a better reason to change the can’s colour than to increase awareness about the Arctic ecosystem. And with nearly two-thirds of the world’s polar bears living in Canada, this is definitely a cause that is perfect for Canadians! To learn more about the partnership, check out the video below:
In addition to making a donation, visitors to iCoke.ca can also learn about polar bears and their Arctic home through a variety of multi-media experiences. From watching video chats with WWF scientists to tracking virtual polar bear sightings, the site offers more than just a way to donate money. It offers a way to learn just how precious the Canadian Arctic truly is.
So this holiday season, grab yourself a Coca-Cola in a white can and join the movement to protect the Arctic and its incredible inhabitants, the polar bears. While the can may not be as instantly recognizable, its purpose is far more meaningful!
