Being a parent can sometimes make me feel completely overwhelmed, but there is one time of day when I believe I do a darn good job mothering and that time is morning. Despite the hustle and bustle of a typical weekday morning, I never have a problem making sure my boys are dressed, fed, packed up and ready to start their day. But I couldn’t do it without a little help from Kellogg’s!
My boys are huge fans of Kellogg’s cereal. In fact, it’s the only brand of cereal I currently have in the house! I love how delicious, nutritious and convenient cold cereal is as a breakfast choice and from the way my boys devour it, they obviously agree! So when I was chosen to be a part of the brand new Kelloggers Network, I was thrilled.
I received a fabulous box of Kellogg’s products and some fun branded merchandise in my welcome kit and it had memories about this beloved brand flooding back. When I pulled out two beautiful bowls emblazoned with the familiar Kellogg’s rooster and a box of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes, I could almost hear my mom’s voice telling me the story of how cold cereal was invented.
Did you know that Kellogg’s was the first company to create a cold cereal? My mom used to tell me about the Kellogg brothers that had accidentally put a batch of boiled grain through the grinder instead of the dried grain they had meant to use. She said that when the flattened kernels came out of the machine, one brother decided to try toasting them to dry them out, hoping they could still be used. Instead, Kellogg’s Corn Flakes were born!
Whether or not the discovery happened exactly like that, Kellogg’s Corn Flakes were an instant success and they are just as popular today as they ever were! My oldest son insists on a bowl of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes every morning and when I sprinkle a half-teaspoon of sugar over the flakes for him, it always puts a smile on my face as I remember sitting down to the same breakfast as a child.
I had a great time discovering some new Kellogg’s products as well. The entire family was thrilled to see a box of Mini Wheats in the package; it is our undisputed favourite cereal! And I was excited to see how much my boys enjoyed the new Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Superfruit Flavours cereal bars. I loved the Cherry Pomegranate bars, but both boys seemed to prefer the Strawberry Acai variety. I loved the idea of using antioxidant-rich and nutrition-packed fruit in a cereal bar!
But my favourite thing about the Kelloggers Network welcome kit I received was the memories that were inside. Seeing my son eat a bowl or three of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes every morning before he goes to Kindergarten is like stepping back in time for me. It’s such a small thing, that bowl of cereal. But it’s such a big part of childhood! I am so excited to be a part of this fun new network, and I’m sure that the months ahead will hold many more opportunities to share moments from the past and fun new products for the future. After all, memories and innovation are quite possibly the two biggest trademarks of the Kellogg’s brand!
