Get Everything You Need in a Family Vehicle with the Ford Edge

June 4, 2012 by Kathryn 8 Comments

The last two months of testing out some of the 2012 vehicles from Ford Canada has been an absolute blast. From cars to trucks to hybrids, we’ve really gotten a feel for Ford’s newest models and recently we rounded out the whole experience when we took the 2012 Ford Edge for a spin. This vehicle was made with family in mind and to me, it was the ultimate family vehicle: roomy, versatile and not too pricey!

2012 ford edgeWhen we first climbed into the 2012 Ford Edge, there were a few things I noticed right away. The first was the fact that it was designed so that it drove like a car. My husband is a professional driver so he’s comfortable behind the wheel of pretty much any machine, but for a less confident driver like myself, having something that handles like a car is always a good thing!

I also noticed how incredibly roomy the Ford Edge was. This stylish crossover has all the extra space of a station wagon with a sleek look you’ll actually be proud to show off! With foldaway rear seats and a back hatch that opens and closes with the push of a button, we had all the room we needed whether we were heading on a vacation or just stocking up on groceries for the week.

The Ford Edge also gave us our first experience with the push-button start and keyless entry system. This is something any busy parent will really appreciate. When you approach the vehicle with the car’s sensor in your pocket, the car recognizes your approach so that to unlock the door, all you have to do is put your hand on the door handle! If you’ve ever tried to get your keys out of your pocket with a squirmy baby in one arm and a bag of groceries in the other, you’ll understand why I absolutely loved this feature! And once inside, the engine starts with a simple button push.

2012 ford edge interiorThe Ford Edge comes with tons of different motor options for all your power needs as well. I liked that the vehicle was available in both a front-wheel-drive and an all-wheel-drive model; having an AWD vehicle definitely makes winter in Saskatchewan a little easier! And the V6 EcoBoost engine delivered fabulous power and fuel efficiency. For those with a passion for driving, the standard 6-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission with Sport Mode lets you switch from automatic to manual shifting whenever you choose!

Overall, this was the Ford vehicle that satisfied the most of my many requirements for a family vehicle. It was versatile enough for my hubby to haul around anything he needed to, had enough room in the rear seats that the boys weren’t constantly arguing with one another and despite its incredible power, handled like a regular car with great fuel efficiency to boot. If you need a family vehicle that does it all, this stylish crossover may be just what you’ve been looking for. Why not stop by your local Ford dealership and take one for a test drive?

Thanks Crystal! I HIGHLY recommend taking one for a test drive, if only to check out all the fun new technology they have. 🙂 Our vehicles are all about ten years old so things like touch screen controls, voice activation and parallel park assistance were like magic to me! LOL

You make that sound very appealing – especially the part about it driving like a car – this is huge for hubby as he doesn’t like the feel of vans/suvs as much as cars! Great review.

Thanks Amanda! This would be the perfect choice for your hubby, then! It’s nice to have the bigger vehicle but still have that car-like handling. I don’t like driving vans and SUVs either; I’m always worried about having enough space around me!

It IS roomy! I liked it a lot more than I expected to, actually. I’m not a big fan of crossovers, but this one was SO comfy!

That keyless entry is GENIUS! I seriously can’t imagine there’s a woman in the world that wouldn’t find this handy!
