The Three Stooges was released on Blu-ray and DVD on July 17, 2012 and I received a screening copy so that I could check it out. I’ve seen the odd clip of the original series and endless parodies so I was excited to find out how The Three Stooges had been updated for today. Here’s a brief synopsis:
Left on a nun’s doorstep, Larry, Curly and Moe grow up finger-poking, nyuk-nyuking and woo-woo-wooing their way to uncharted levels of knuckleheaded misadventure. Out to save their childhood home, only The Three Stooges could become embroiled in an oddball murder plot…while also stumbling into starring in a phenomenally successful TV reality show.
After watching the movie, I have to say that overall, The Three Stooges really haven’t been updated at all. The humour is very physical, the antics are absurd and the laughs are plentiful. The movie is even divided into three different “skits” just like the original television show used to be.
There is a lot that is ridiculous about The Three Stooges. I found myself laughing throughout the movie; sometimes because I found something genuinely funny and sometimes because the “gag” was so ridiculously cheesy that I had to laugh at how bad it was. But it did keep me laughing right up until the end, which made the time I spent watching it 92 minutes well wasted, in my opinion!
This is not a movie to watch over and over again; it’s great for a night of silliness and fans of the original The Three Stooges series will certainly enjoy seeing the modern-day Larry, Curly and Moe partake in their usual cornball antics. If you’re looking for a movie that will have you laughing even as you roll your eyes, check out The Three Stooges. Fans of sophisticated humour need not apply!
