Enjoy Non-Spooky Halloween Fun with Andy Z’s The Grand Scream of Things CD-Giveaway

October 2, 2012 by Kathryn 22 Comments

Halloween is just around the corner and acclaimed performer Andy Z is celebrating with a new children’s audioplay CD! Andy Z’s The Grand Scream of Things is a musical adventure that tells the story of Andy Z and his quest to return a lost wand to its owner, Sandy Witch. Here’s a brief synopsis of the disc:

The-Grand-Scream-of-Things-cover-artThe Grand Scream Of Things is a story about a boy named Andy Z who has one more chance to fully participate in everything Halloween (most importantly, to finally win 1st prize in the local costume contest – an accomplishment that has eluded him thus far) before he’s considered too old to do so- but is forced to choose between this final opportunity to shine, and finding a young witch named Sandy who is revealed to him in a dream as losing her magic wand and being lost somewhere in Andyland.

He chooses begrudgingly to find the witch with the help of his faithful dog Reggie, chum Danger Dude, and alien “girl” friend (or is it girlfriend?) Pleadia. This quest for the witch takes Andy and friends through the “punkin” patch, to the school where teacher Jam Master Z gets them a cooking lesson from the Bakin’ Fools, and finally to the amusement park (with skater Blue The Rat) where they must enter the feared Bouncy House Of Horrors.

Andy does ultimately find Sandy Witch, but he also learns: it’s not “the treats you eat” but “the friends you meet” that matter most.

The song is a great mix of story and music and features ten original songs within the dialogue. One of the things I liked about the CD was that there was a wide range of musical styles featured: swinging jazz tunes, kid-friendly rap, upbeat rock and more. I love CDs that introduce children to a wide variety of musical styles and the way this was done within a story was so engaging.

The CD was designed for children between eight and twelve and it really has the appropriate trendy content to keep older children absorbed. From aliens to talking dogs, there was a colourful cast of characters to appeal to interested kids. And of course, the Halloween theme is always a fun one!

Andy Z wants to let your kids get in the Halloween spirit so he’s offering one lucky Mommy Kat and Kids reader their own copy of Andy Z’s The Grand Scream of Things CD! To enter to win, just check out The Grand Scream of Things website and leave a blog comment about something you liked or something you learned there.

I really enjoyed listening to the story of Andy Z and his search for Sandy Witch. The audioplay had a fun mix of humour, action and fun music with a plot that kept me entertained the entire time. If you want a fun Halloween CD for your older children, check out The Grand Scream of Things for yourself and let your kids go on a musical Halloween adventure!
