Christmas is a time of giving, but it’s also a time of giving back. While I love the fun and excitement of finding great gifts for my family, my friends and my boys, I also want to make sure that I raise my boys knowing that what really make Christmas special is helping others. That’s why every year I make sure that we’re thinking about the people outside of our family as well as our loved ones.
I have a strong belief in community and that’s why my number one cause to support is the local food bank. Every year food banks provide needy families with special Christmas hampers containing the food to make a Christmas dinner and a present for each child in the house. While food donations are a huge help to our Regina Food Bank during most of the year, Christmas is different. The items for the hampers are purchased fresh and so monetary donations are incredibly important when the holiday season arrives.
I may not have a large amount of disposable income, but every Christmas I make sure that my boys understand how important it is to share with others. When the elementary school does its annual holiday collection for the food bank, Zackary is the one heading to school with a grocery bag full of food. And while it might mean one less present under the tree, we still send a cheque off to the Regina Food Bank each year to help ensure the Christmas hampers are packed with holiday goodies.
The spirit of giving is something that LEGO DUPLO embraces as well and this month, as part of my mission as a LEGO DUPLO Play Agent, I have the chance to offer my readers a very special giveaway! LEGO DUPLO has eight amazing gift ideas that would be perfect for giving to special children in your life or donating to your favourite cause.
Just choose your favourite four gifts from the items pictured above and you could win those exact items. Best of all, they’ll be delivered already wrapped to your front door, just in time for Christmas! Please note that while you can enter across multiple blogs, you can only win this prize once.
I’m so excited for Christmas to arrive both because I love seeing the looks on my boys’ faces when they open their special gifts and because I love having the chance to teach them about how important it is to give to others. It’s such an important chance to teach kids that while playing with new toys at Christmas is fun, helping others can be just as rewarding.
