I’ve already shared quite a few of my goals for 2016, and one of my top ones is to do more traveling. With all the changes that took place in my life in 2015, travel had to take a bit of a back seat. But now that my house has been sold, the plans are in place for our move to Ontario and my boys are settled in for the rest of the school year, I have time to focus on fitting more travel into our lives. And to keep me inspired about my goal, I’m turning to Netflix Canada!
I’ve long been a fan of the many great documentaries on Netflix, and I’m not the only one. My oldest son first started watching documentaries when he was just five years old; I remember coming downstairs one morning to find him completely enthralled by a program on the Galapagos Islands. I was so happy that he was interested in the world outside our own small town!
Learning more about the diversity of the earth is one of the best ways to inspire a love of travel, and it’s also a great way to virtually experience our amazing planet for those times when taking a trip just isn’t possible. Personally, I could watch and re-watch the incredible BBC documentary Planet Earth: The Complete Collection. The series takes viewers on a trip around the globe, from mountains to plains to lush tropical forests. For anyone wondering what their next destination should be, this title is sure to provide inspiration.
For my ocean-loving boys, however, Mission Blue is the current favourite. The documentary doesn’t just explore the amazing life and diversity in the world’s oceans, it helps inspire others to do their part in preserving and protecting this incredibly valuable ecosystem from pollution, over-fishing and other threats. I love knowing that my boys understand just how important the world’s oceans are every time they dip their toes in the water.
So far, I’ve already managed to make a good start to my goal for the year with a trip to Detroit just one week ago, another to Hollywood coming up at the end of the month and a journey to sunny Florida planned for early February. But I want that to just be the start of our adventures for the year. And while I’m not sure where our next trip will be, watching some amazing documentaries on Netflix is sure to give me plenty of ideas, while also keeping me motivated to work hard and save that extra money for the next vacation. No matter what goals you’ve set for yourself this year, Netflix has so many inspiring and educational titles to help keep you motivated all year. Treat yourself to a little downtime as you get inspired to change your life in 2016!
