When my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer just after her sixtieth birthday, I was completely shocked. It was something I’d worried about as a child because my grandmother had died battling breast cancer. But as an adult, I’d put it out of my mind, convinced that my mom was still far too young to have to worry about such a thing.
In retrospect, I realize just how foolish that belief was. Current statistics show that nearly one in two Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives. And while my mother’s story was the one that hit closest to home, I realized after her battle that I knew many, many people that had also received the dreaded diagnosis.
I’m very thankful that my mom’s chemotherapy and radiation has ended, hopefully forever. But I still want to do my part to help end cancer once and for all! That’s why I’m excited to learn about Colour Your Hair to Conquer Cancer, the newest initiative from Princess Margaret Centre to help raise funds for cancer research!
What I love about the Colour Your Hair initiative is that it’s such a fun way to show support. It can be as simple or as dramatic as a person wishes: add some blonde highlights or turn your whole head bright blue! And by teaming up with friends, raising funds is easier and even more fun.

I’ve always said that when my hair started going noticeably grey, I’d start to try some really fun and wild hair colours. And while I don’t think I’m quite ready for rainbow locks yet, I do have enough gray that I think some copper streaks could brighten my look.
In addition to raising money for cancer research, Colour Your Hair to Conquer Cancer is also offering some amazing awards to the stylists and individuals with the best look! Judges will choose their favourite hairstyles and then award three stylists/colourists and three individuals with cash prizes.
To celebrate this fun new fundraising campaign, come join in the #GetYourColourOn Twitter Party on May 8, 2018 at 8pm EST! You’ll be able to learn more about the work the Princess Margaret Centre does, get some ideas for starting your own fundraising campaign and, of course, talk new hairstyles. Best of all, there’s $1000 in prizing available to participants! There’s no RSVP required, so mark your calendar and get ready for fun.
To learn more, register or make a contribution to a participant, make sure to visit http://colour2cc.ca/. You’ll get all the information you need to help make a difference in the fight against cancer. Then go bold to show your support (or support someone else that’s getting their colour on) and help Princess Margaret Centre move forward on their mission to find a cure.

My four nieces all coloured their hair for Cancer last year. They did it in tribute to my daughter who passed away from Brain Cancer. I was so proud of the girls for doing this and they plan to do it every year. A beautiful photo of you and your Mom and you look like twins.
