I always seem to have a hard time writing about my experiences at blog conferences, but it’s not because I have nothing to say. To the contrary, it’s because I learn so much that I have trouble narrowing down exactly what I want to share. And at no conference do I have a harder time with that than BlogWest. I’ve attended BlogWest 2012 as a panellist and BlogWest 2013 as a speaker and conference ambassador and both times the sheer volume of knowledge I gained left me overwhelmed for weeks afterwards.
There were a few key learning moments from the conference that really started to stand out to me over the last couple of weeks, though. These were my top three BlogWest 2013 takeaways:
When I attended the #FordNAIAS event in Detroit last week, the first day or so gave me a chance to experience some of the Ford Motor Company’s rich history. But Ford is a company that is always going forward and the rest of the time in Detroit, for me, was about moving into the future.
There’s no better place to discuss moving forward than at TechShop Detroit. This membership-based workshop and prototyping studio is designed for creating and contains any type of machine or tool that a person might need to bring their ideas to life. We headed to TechShop for dinner and while there we were treated to a presentation by Scott Burnell, Ford’s Global Lead for Business Development and Project Management, who introduced us to the new Ford Developer Program. Basically, this software will allow third-party programmers to create apps that can be integrated into the Ford SYNC AppLink system in vehicles. While the system isn’t available in Canada quite yet, I loved the concept and I can’t wait to see how it enhances the driving experience for the average family.
Happy 2013! There’s nothing quite like the start of a new year to give you a renewed sense of hope, purpose and motivation to accomplish just about anything. Tap into the power of this season and get your family budget in shape for the new year. A little effort now could really pay off by the time we’re saying hello to 2014.
The Kinder Mom program is back once more and for the third time, I’ve been lucky enough to have been chosen to share my love of chocolate and playtime with my readers with all kinds of great Kinder Canada features! And the program is launching with bang because this month I get to spread the word about the brand new 2013 Kinder Canada toy collection!
Last year my boys had months of fun with flying toys, racing toys and toys that squirted water. This year, the fun is continuing with Softy Tummies, Combo Cars and many more adorable new toys! I received a case of 24 Kinder Surprise eggs containing toys from the new collection and I decided to take them to preschool story time at the library. [Read more…]
About a month ago, I had the chance to attend the Ford Escape for the Day event as part of the Escape’s nationwide tour, so my sister and I headed to the Sheraton Cavalier hotel in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to learn about the 2013 Ford Escape and spend the day enjoying some fun activities. The event started with a drive to the Western Development Museum, where we got the chance to drive through a closed course and see firsthand the way Ford is using the latest technology to make driving as safe as it can be.
Driving on the closed course was really something else. From swerving around pylons to a brake test to sudden obstacle avoidance, the way we were told to drive the cars through the course was nothing like everyday driving. “Put the pedal to the floor and don’t let up until it’s time to slam on the brakes,” I was told, and the fun-loving daredevil in me came out full force as I sped through the course with my slightly frightened sister beside me.
