Step Into the Ontario Cottage Life Affordably with Great Blue Resorts

July 22, 2016 by Kathryn 6 Comments

Last year my fiancé and I took the boys on a trip to Ontario to stay with his family for a few weeks and explore the area. We had a great time visiting zoos, checking out some of Toronto’s top attractions and meeting extended family members. But for me, the highlight of the visit was spending time at the family’s gorgeous cabin on the lake. The location was so peaceful and serene, and there was nothing better than waking up and sitting outside by the water with a steaming cup of coffee, or even going for a morning swim.

Ever since that moment, I’ve dreamed of owning a cottage of my own. But for the average working couple, buying property in cottage country is a costly luxury. A two-bedroom cottage in a prime location currently often sells for half a million dollars or more. More affordable options often mean buying property much further away or taking on a lengthy renovation of a fixer-upper. What’s a family that wants to get away from it all to do?

Kids Love Playing with Timeless Wooden Games from Blue Orange Games-Giveaway

May 23, 2013 by Kathryn 102 Comments

As much as my boys love fancy, electronic toys and games, it’s invariably the more simple and classic activities that become their favourites. I love seeing how much Zackary and Benjamin enjoy sitting down to play a board game or act out a story with their favourite toys and I always love finding new games that seem like a good fit for my boys.

Recently Blue Orange Games sent me two of its beautiful wooden games to review and even as children’ games go, they were something special. We received Froggy Boogie and Zimbbos! to review and the boys were absolutely giddy about playing with the brightly coloured wooden pieces.

Indulge Yourself with the Rich Gourmet Flavour of Castello Cheese

April 1, 2013 by Kathryn 8 Comments

castello mellow blueRecently I had the chance to review the delicious cheese available from Tre Stelle. As a huge cheese lover, I was delighted and I had a great time testing out a few different varieties of Tre Stelle cheese. So when I was asked to try some of the varieties of cheese available from Castello, one of the company’s sister brands, I couldn’t resist.

Castello specializes in blue cheeses but the brand also carries a variety of other hard and soft cheese. I grabbed a package of Mellow Blue Cheese and a box of Brie to try. To be honest, Castello Mellow Blue is a cheese that I’ve had in the past many times. It’s my favourite brand of blue cheese because as blue cheese goes, it isn’t overwhelming and while it has the rich, salty flavour that I expect from blue cheese, it’s also a milder blue cheese choice.
