The Diono Radian RXT Convertible Booster is the Only Car Seat You’ll Ever Need

April 14, 2016 by Kathryn 15 Comments

When it comes to a new baby, there are lots of fun little purchases to make, from cute onesies to first toys. But there are also those bigger purchases that take more thought and research in order to make the absolute best choice for baby. And one of the most important purchases any new parent will ever make is the all-important car seat.

When my boys were first born, I knew that I’d need a great car seat. Living in a rural Saskatchewan town meant that I had to do lots of driving just to get basic essentials like groceries. And since my boys would be spending a fair bit of time in a car seat, I wanted one that was versatile, comfortable for my children and, above all else, safe.

I only wish that the Diono Radian RXT Convertible Booster had been around back then! This car seat combines all the essentials parents want in a car seat so that everyone can enjoy the drive in style. My favourite feature of the car seat is definitely its versatility. With the ability to safely secure children from five to 120 pounds, it’s the only car seat purchase a family will ever need to make! [Read more…]

4 Car Seat Safety Tips Every Parent Should Know from a Child Passenger Safety Expert

April 22, 2015 by Kathryn 2 Comments

Even though every parent knows that keeping babies properly secured in a car seat is important, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that three out of every four car seats are installed incorrectly. I know that I often wondered if I had properly secured my boys’ seats in the car and also questioned when I should move them to seats meant for older or larger children. I only wish that I’d had Kelley Adams-Campos to advise me back then! Recently the top Ford child passenger safety expert came to Regina to share her knowledge of car seat safety with teen mothers who attend the Shirley Schneider Support Centre and even having raised two kids, I learned a lot. Here are four great tips from Kelley:

Keep Kids Facing Back

Children should remain in a rear-facing seat for as long as possible, says Kelley, since it minimizes the chance of neck and head injury in the event of a collision. Check the manufacturer’s instructions to find the maximum height and weight recommended for having a seat facing the rear and don’t turn it forward before a child reaches it. Ideally, Kelley says, children should be rear facing until at least two years of age. If you’re concerned about your baby being able to see you, remember that he’s never known any other way of driving and so won’t miss a thing. And if you’re worried about checking on your little one while driving, stop. Distracting yourself from the road to entertain your child just puts both of you in greater danger of an accident. Get Your Family Car Ready for Winter Weather with These 3 Simple Tips

November 18, 2014 by Kathryn 46 Comments

With winter weather here, it’s time to make sure that your car is ready for the snow. I have to admit that aside from changing the oil, I used to often forget that I needed to do anything to be ready for winter driving. But then I learned that it really just takes a few simple steps to make sure that I’m ready to hit the road when the snow starts to fall. These are the three things that I make sure I always do as soon as the temperature drops below zero so that I’m ready to drive with confidence.

Stash a Safety Kit

Having a safety kit in the trunk of the car is handy any time of the year and a must during winter. My kit contains food, a candle, waterproof matches, a solar-powered flashlight, an emergency blanket, work gloves, booster cables and mini pylons. Every year I check to make sure that all the supplies are still there and working well, replacing them as needed. Luckily I haven’t ever had to use that emergency blanket, candle or food, but knowing they are there makes me feel much safer about travelling in the winter with my boys. And the booster cables are something I have used on numerous occasions, both for my own car and to help others. No vehicle should be without them! [Read more…]

Evenflo SecureKid DLX Harnessed Booster Keeps Kids Safe During Family Travel

August 20, 2014 by Kathryn 15 Comments

Our family does a lot of travelling so it goes without saying that keeping my boys safe on the road is a top priority for me. Zackary recently outgrew a booster seat and now sits properly with just a seatbelt when we drive, but Benjamin still needs that extra safety and support that a car seat provides. Since my boys were infants I’ve trusted the quality of Evenflo car seats and strollers, so when I got the chance to act as an Evenflo Ambassador and review one of the company’s top car seats, I was thrilled.

Benjamin is at the stage of transitioning from a five-point front-facing car seat to a booster seat, so I was sure the Evenflo SecureKid DLX Harnessed Booster would be the best choice for him. This versatile car seat is perfect for children that have outgrown a rear facing car seat since it’s appropriate for children between 22 lbs. and 110 lbs, and it’s a great choice for parents as well because it grows with a child right up until he no longer needs a booster seat. The Evenflo Symphony DLX All-In-One Car Seat Keeps Kids Safe from Birth to School-Age

October 24, 2012 by Kathryn 8 Comments

Benjamin is at that awkward age at which he isn’t quite big enough for a booster seat and is a little too big for a front facing car seat. He was using a booster but the seat belt wasn’t quite in the right place and I wasn’t sure what I was going to do about that. Fortunately, Evenflo came to the rescue by offering me a chance to review the Symphony 65 DLX All-In-One Car Seat.

It contains some great safety features, including superior side impact safety thanks to the e3 Triple-Layer Foam. I headed out to install the car seat so that I could see how it worked for Benjamin on our next trip.

The seat was quick and easy to install due to the SureLatch system; I simply clicked the latch into place in the back of the seat and tugged it tight. Evenflo claimed I could have safety in sixty seconds with the SureLatch system and I have to admit that the company’s claims really held true! [Read more…]
