With March Break on the horizon, parents across Canada are starting to make plans on how to spend those extra days off. While a vacation is always tempting, staying at home can be just as much fun…and a lot less expensive! Looking for staycation ideas for your family? Here are seven tips on how to fully enjoy a staycation (perhaps you can even try one a day), without the stress and exhaustion that international travel can bring.
The school year is fast approaching and I’m already starting to plan out some easy and delicious meals for the busy school season. While I tend to stick to fairly basic sandwiches and snacks for the most part, I like having some fun and creative meal ideas at the ready as well. And that’s especially true for breakfast! Even though my boys love their cereal, they also love heartier options in the morning and since breakfast is the most important meal of the day, I want to make sure that they head out the door feeling satisfied.
This year, Ozery’s Pita Break is helping with that thanks to its extensive variety of delicious and healthy Morning Rounds and Just Minis pita breads. I recently received a variety of products to create a tasty back-to-school recipe, so I decided to combine a few kid-friendly favourites into one quick and easy breakfast idea: Mexican Mini Breakfast Pizzas! I am a huge fan of barbequing and once the weather is warm enough to eat outside, I’ll sometimes use the barbeque all week long. From chicken and steak to hot dogs and hamburgers, it’s a sure-to-please meal if it’s been on the grill!
But I’m not a fan of the big, doughy hamburger and hot dog buns and their high calorie count, so that’s why this year I’ve fallen in love with Ozery’s Pita Break! The company’s OneBun® flatbread buns are a lighter alternative to traditional buns and are free of artificial colours, flavours, additives and preservatives. To help you have an extra delicious barbeque season, Ozery’s Pita Break has ten great barbeque tips you’ll want to check out before you hit the grill!
Many families across Canada are celebrating March Break this week, a time to celebrate the end of winter and head off on an adventure! My boys and I are no strangers to travel but even so, keeping healthy on the road can sometimes be a challenge. Both boys occasionally have stomach troubles when they’re sampling the cuisine of another country. And my oldest is prone to carsickness even if we just make a quick day trip to a nearby attraction. It can definitely put a damper on the fun when my boys aren’t feeling their best!
Luckily, about a year ago, I discovered that probiotics are a great solution for stomach health, especially when travelling. I first heard about the importance of probiotics from a food writer friend of mine. She had been on a food tour featuring a multi-course meal of incredibly rich dishes. At the end of the meal, another tour participant gave her probiotics to help her stomach digest the heavy meal. The next day, the two ladies were fine while everyone else was feeling rather ill.

I have a few great passions in life and one of them has always been travel. Whether it’s a quick weekend trip to see family or a month-long vacation overseas, being out in the world exploring is something that I live to experience. And while I might occasionally wish for a vacation on my own just to recharge a bit, for the most part I absolutely love having my boys with me on my adventures.
But travelling with kids can be hard, especially when they sometimes don’t understand the simple safety tips that adults follow automatically. Benjamin is notorious for leaving his luggage unattended while he looks at some interesting thing he’s found in an airport. And Zackary often tries to rush ahead in crowded places simply not understanding that there are so many people that he might not be able to find me. Still, travelling with kids can be a great experience with a little preparation! That why this month as part of the Master Lock Live Secure Safety Squad, I’m sharing my top tips for travelling safely with your family:
In the Car
- Make sure to check all car seats and ensure that the sizing is correct and that they are installed properly before heading out on a long trip. Car seats do have expiry dates so a road trip is the perfect time to make sure that the ones you’re using are still safe and valid.
- Give your car a quick tune-up before leaving by checking the oil, antifreeze, washer fluid and tire pressure. Consider purchasing auto travel insurance for additional peace of mind while on a long road trip.
School-aged children around the country are eagerly anticipating the long awaited Spring Break or Spring Vacation. Most districts put school on pause for a week or even two some time in March or April giving students (and their teachers!) some much needed R&R. This time of year can also be a cause for concern among families on a budget – you know…those of us who can’t hop on a jet bound for the Maldives for a week of fun in the sun!
But don’t worry! It is entirely possible to create a fun-filled vacation without breaking the bank. Here are some tips and tricks to help, whether your plans involve being home with the little ones, some low cost travel or mom and dad working over the break.
