Sharing the New LEGO DUPLO Toddler Toys at a LEGO DUPLO Party! #LEGODUPLOplay

February 14, 2013 by Kathryn 18 Comments

I love being a LEGO DUPLO Play Ambassador not just because my boys love LEGO but also because I get to be the first to learn about all the newest products available for children. Recently, LEGO DUPLO released a line of Toddler building sets and not only did I get to be one of the first to learn about them, I even had the chance to share the products with friends at a LEGO DUPLO party!

The new line of toys includes a Toddler Starter Building Set, Toddler Build and Pull Along set and Toddler Build and Play Cubes set perfect for combining fun and learning for little ones that are experiencing LEGO DUPLO for the first time. I received one of each of the new toys, a Brick Box and two Bricks and Books sets along with a fabulous party kit full of activities and games to help make my get-together unforgettable. And since the LEGO brick recently celebrated its 55th Birthday, I decided to have my party then. What better day could there be to share new LEGO DUPLO products with others?

There’s No Such Thing as Summer Boredom with LEGO SpongeBob Squarepants Building Sets-Giveaway

July 3, 2012 by Kathryn 139 Comments

Summer vacation is a time for lots of fun outdoor activities and family bonding, but summer is also a time when parents sometimes desperately need to get work done while kids are getting in the way looking for something to do! This summer, Nickelodeon Canada wants to help you prepare for those moments with a little help from everyone’s favourite sponge…SpongeBob Squarepants!

If you have school-aged children in the house, you’re probably already familiar with the cheerful sponge, his starfish best friend Patrick, his grumpy co-worker Squidward and his meowing pet snail Gary. And if you haven’t heard of SpongeBob before, never fear! Unlike some children’s shows, SpongeBob Squarepants is actually pretty enjoyable viewing for adults as well as kids!

Enjoy Hours of Indoor Fun with Little Tikes TikeStix-Giveaway

March 30, 2012 by Kathryn 135 Comments

Spring is officially here, but cold weather has still been keeping us indoors more often than I would like and at this point, my boys are getting absolutely stir-crazy! Fortunately, Little Tikes has some great new toys that are perfect for kids that have energy to burn and recently we received the fabulous new TikeStix Fort Building Set to test out.

Little Tikes TikeStix ClubhouseTikeStix are the newest building craze for younger children and they are a blast! When we first opened the box, my husband and I decided to put together the cute clubhouse for the boys to see how they liked it. There were five different pieces for kids to use to create unique structures plus a lightweight plastic tarp and eight tarp clips for the clubhouse roof. I have to admit, I had a lot of fun putting the pieces together to make the boys their very own clubhouse! They put a blanket on the floor and added a few pillows to make it comfortable, and then hopped inside for the rest of the evening. Zackary even wanted to sleep in it!

For the next few days, the boys had a great time playing with their fort, but then the roof structure detached a bit and when I tried to push it back together, the whole clubhouse fell down. Fortunately, we didn’t worry too much about that since it provided the perfect opportunity to build something new with the TikeStix! The included instructions had diagrams to build four different creations so I tried my hand at creating a set of TikeStix airplanes. They looked fabulous and once I made it clear that they were NOT for riding, the boys had fun pushing them along the floor, sailing them through the air and generally carrying on!

Zackary built on my theme of flying vehicles and created an assortment of different planes and even a helicopter! Benjamin, on the other hand, decided he needed a lightsaber and attached three TikeStix pieces to make one. Watching them get creative and use their imaginations to make their own amazing toys was so satisfying!

TikeStix really added some adventure to the last few days of cold weather and I loved the fact that they could be used as a fort, as toys or a building set. The Little Tikes TikeStix come in four different building sets for hours and hours of building entertainment. Grab one of these clever kits for your kids and see how much fun indoor play can be!

Laser Pegs Construction Set-Review

September 28, 2011 by Kathryn Leave a Comment

There are so many amazing building sets available and with two boys in the house, I’ve seen a lot of them. So it takes something extra special to really “wow” me when it comes to a construction kit.

laser pegs tractor setWhen I heard about Laser Pegs, it sounded like a set that just might be that special. These amazing building pieces feature low voltage LED lights inside, and when the pegs are connected to one another and plugged into the included battery pack, the finished structure lights up in a rainbow of colours. It sounded incredible and I couldn’t wait when I got the chance to review a Laser Pegs set.

We received the Tractor set to review and of course, I barely got a chance to unwrap the package before Zackary had grabbed the box and run over to his dad to start building. Whenever something like this comes into the house, Curtis usually takes the lead with it; he loves construction sets as much as Zackary and unlike his son, he actually follows the instructions so that we can see the finished project.

Curtis spent a few minutes assembling the 29-piece tractor while Zackary experimented with the pieces. Soon, they were ready to power up the finished vehicle.

The multicoloured tractor looked so cool and Zackary immediately insisted on moving it to his room. For the next few days, he spent a few minutes before bed building his Laser Pegs set into a new configuration and then turning it on when I turned out his lights to act as a nightlight. I loved seeing what kind of fun and colourful sculptures he could create with the same kit!

laser pegs world of bugs kitWhile the Laser Pegs kit did come with a battery pack, it can also be powered by an AC/DC adapter plug and since the pegs can drain batteries fairly quickly (especially if you have a child that’s using his construction as a night light) I definitely recommend finding or buying an AC/DC Adapter. My husband tends to collect power adapters so we had no problem finding one that worked. But for those that may not have such pack rat tendencies, there is also an adapter available to purchase on the Laser Pegs site.

Overall, Laser Pegs was an easy-to-use and fun building set and the unique twist of the illuminated pieces made it a fast favourite with my son. If you have a young builder in the family, check out Laser Pegs for yourself and let your child have fun with the only building set that lets them play with light!
