The holidays season is coming up quickly and that means it’s time to start getting ready for holiday guests and entertaining! I absolutely love decorating for Christmas and this year, I’ll be decorating in a new place as we’ve recently moved to a pretty little Saskatoon townhouse! But of course, the holiday season is also one of the busiest times of the year and that means that I can’t spend days and days perfecting my home’s holiday look. Luckily, I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve! Here are my top three tips for easy holiday decorating!

1) Minimize Time and Mess with an Artificial Tree

For years, I was one of the biggest advocates of a real tree. The beauty, the scent and the classic look of a real Christmas tree was just unbeatable as far as I was concerned. But then one year I caved and decided to try an artificial tree. Not only was I able to set it up in less than five minutes, but it also came pre-lit with pretty white lights, saving on decorating time! And best of all, there was no watering, no sweeping or vacuuming fallen needles and no awkward disposal afterwards. [Read more…]

Decorate Your Home for the Holidays with 3 Easy Christmas Craft Ideas

December 2, 2013 by Kathryn 44 Comments

Christmas is my absolute favourite time of year and I love adding a homemade touch to my holiday season with Christmas craft ideas and other homemade items. While store-bought treats and decorations are nice, there’s something especially heartwarming about making Christmas treats, crafts and presents myself whenever possible.

Of course as a mother, I’m usually incredibly busy, so the homemade touches I add to Christmas have to be ones that are quick and easy. Here are my top three easy Christmas craft ideas:

White Christmas Tree

Holiday decorating doesn’t get any easier than this! Just use white spray-paint to coat a few tree branches and then mount them in a pail or pot filled with gravel. Decorate the trendy tree with sparkling metallic ornaments for a look that is fresh and modern, but still festive. I created my own ornaments by covering foam eggs with chrome paint and adding wire hangers for a quick and stylish display, but store-bought ornaments will work just as well too. [Read more…]

Find the Perfect Christmas Tree for Your Family at Walmart Canada

December 19, 2012 by Kathryn 19 Comments

walmart edgewood pre-lit treeEver since I was a child, Christmas meant having a real tree in the house. It was always such a monumental event, that day when the tree was finally carried inside and decorated. And the smell that filled the house after was the very essence of Christmas to me. As an adult, I carried on the tradition and I really didn’t think that anything could tempt me away from the joys of a real Christmas tree. (I conveniently disregarded the months of trying to remove pine needles from the carpet once Christmas had passed.)

Then I saw the gorgeous artificial trees in the Walmart Holiday Home Trends Look Book. Full, beautiful and decorated in different styles ranging from a sophisticated Victorian tree with white and gold decorations to a colourful traditional rustic tree that any child would love, they were stunning enough to convince me that maybe an artificial tree wouldn’t be so bad. So I was very excited when Walmart Canada sent me a gift card so that I could see for myself what its artificial trees were like. [Read more…]
