Practicing Gratitude and Keeping My Family Healthy with Orange Naturals-Giveaway

October 16, 2017 by Kathryn 62 Comments

Disclosure: I am part of the Orange Naturals Mom Ambassador Program and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.

With Thanksgiving just having passed, gratitude is something that’s fresh in my mind. I’m so thankful to have an amazing and supportive husband, two helpful and intelligent older boys and, of course, a new baby for all of us to love and fawn over.

I’m also grateful that my family is usually quite hearty, so we don’t have to deal with sickness too often when the weather turns chilly. But if coughs and sniffles do strike, I’m going to be sure that I have Orange Naturals Cough+Cold tincture on hand to help us feel better faster!

Preparing Family for Winter Cold and Flus

November 25, 2016 by Kathryn 36 Comments

My mother always told me that I was a very healthy child overall but when I did get sick, I REALLY got sick. I remember some of my worst illnesses from my youth and my mom remembers even more, including an occasion when I had to be rushed to the hospital because I suddenly and inexplicably started convulsing on the floor. The doctors couldn’t explain the cause and it never happened again, but I can only imagine how terrifying that day must have been for my mom.

Now that I’m a parent myself, I’m happy to see that my own boys seem to have taken after me with regards to illnesses. Neither gets sick very often and sometimes we even manage to make it through an entire blustery Saskatchewan winter without so much as a cough or a sniffle. But when my boys do feel under the weather, I’m always ready to help them feel better as best I can!

children's tylenol

Personally, I’ve found that having Children’s TYLENOL® and Children’s MOTRIN® in the house is one of the simplest ways to ensure I’m ready to help my boys feel better. Just last winter, Benjamin woke up in the middle of the night hallucinating with a high fever, though he’d gone to sleep feeling fine. He was almost in tears thinking that there were mean people in his room, and my heart hurt for my poor, confused boy. I gave him a dose of Children’s TYLENOL® to bring down the fever and soon his forehead was cool and he was sleeping peacefully once more. [Read more…]

Help Little Ones Breath Easy this Winter with Boogie Wipes and Boogie Mist

February 7, 2016 by Kathryn 24 Comments

It may have been a pretty mild winter in most parts of Canada, but that certainly didn’t mean that there were no colds and flus making the rounds! In fact, my boys both spent almost a month with stuffy noses and occasional bouts of coughing. One of the hardest parenting jobs has to be comforting a sick child, since so often we’re helpless to help our babies feel better as they’re stuffed up and struggling to breathe.

boogie mist and wipes

I’m a big fan of natural solutions when it comes to helping my boys feel better and luckily, there are a few simple ways to help unclog that stuffy nose when a cold is making our lives miserable. Boogie Wipes and Boogie Mist are a kid-friendly and effective way to help get the boogies out so kids feel better fast. And with two kid-friendly scents to choose from, even toddlers won’t mind blowing their nose! [Read more…]

Celebrate Winter with These 4 Snowy Winter Activities

December 7, 2015 by Kathryn 18 Comments

Here in Saskatchewan, we’ve been enjoying one of the mildest winters in years. And as much as I’m loving each and every warm day, I have to admit that I will be excited to dive into some of those fun outdoor activities that my family can only do in the winter. Planning your own outdoor excursion? These four activities are sure to be fun for the whole family!

Tobogganing

Grab a sled and trek to the top of that perfectly powdered hill. Tobogganing is a great family activity that everyone can enjoy; nothing beats the thrill of sliding down a snowy white hill. What’s your toboggan of choice? The classic wooden style? The faster and more unpredictable flying saucer, or maybe a sleek crazy carpet? [Read more…]

Treat Stuffy Noses and Coughing with Boogie Wipes and Other Natural Solutions

November 10, 2015 by Kathryn 111 Comments

Even though we’ve had one of the nicest autumn seasons I can rememeber here in Saskatchewan, that hasn’t meant that we haven’t had the customary fall illnesses! In fact, both my boys just recently went through one of the worst colds they’ve had in years. Fever, coughing, stuffy noses…they were two unhappy boys for a while! Now the worst of their illness is over, but both boys still have the sniffles and some occasional coughing. And to help them feel better fast, I turn to three simple and natural solutions!

Lemon Water

Staying hydrated is one of the best ways to fight off the final symptoms of a cold, but drinking glass after glass of water does get pretty boring for kids. Fortunately, adding a squirt of lemon juice to the water turns the drink into a treat as far as my boys are concerned! And as an added bonus, lemon juice is said to soothe a sore throat as well! It’s a simple way of making sure my boys are getting enough liquid and helping treat some of their symptoms at the same time. [Read more…]
