Delta Pilar Single Handle Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet with Touch2O® Technology-Review and Giveaway

August 23, 2011 by Kathryn 108 Comments

For me, one of the highlights of home ownership has been updating our incredibly outdated kitchen. Whether I’m baking, cooking a meal, making wine or even (ugh) cleaning, I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. In fact, the kitchen table is where I do my blogging too! No amount of updating is going to make our fairly small kitchen any bigger, but I am gradually learning that making the kitchen more functional and stylish can be just as effective.

delta pilar sing handle pull-down kitchen faucetFunction and style is something that Delta understands very well. A Delta faucet is immediately recognizable thanks to the company’s gorgeous designs, but it is also renowned for its ease of use and ultra-modern features. I was delighted when I was given a chance to review one of the company’s stunning kitchen faucets for myself.

I received the Delta Pilar Single Handle Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet with Touch2O® Technology and Soap Dispenser in the Brilliance Stainless finish to review. The tall and sleek high-arced design of the faucet was gorgeous, but that was just the first of the many things there were to love about the Pilar kitchen faucet.

My husband handled the installation and he commented afterwards on how easy the process had been. He said the detailed illustrated instructions were very clear and he had no problem following the steps to get the faucet working properly. When he was done, he turned on the water using the pull-up handle and adjusted the temperature until it was nice and warm. Then, he stepped back to let me test the most uniquely convenient feature of the Delta faucet.

The Touch2O® technology that the Pilar faucet uses allows a person to turn the water on and off with a brief touch anywhere on the faucet or handle. I eagerly tapped the top of the handle gently and was delighted when the discreet blue sensor at the bottom of the faucet flashed and the water turned off! When I wanted to move the tap without turning it on, I merely had to grasp it with my hand rather than just touching it lightly.

My husband and I both had a lot of fun testing out the technology that first night; I never would have expected to have such a good time turning on a tap! But what started as a fun feature quickly became an absolute essential for me.

With the hard water in our town, we have had to replace more than one faucet in the seven years we’ve lived in our home. Drops of water repeatedly splashed on the faucet invariably resulted in mineral deposits and in the end, the tap would just stop functioning properly. I noticed within the first week that with the Delta Pilar faucet there was an immediate decrease in water spots on the faucet because there was no need to touch it with wet hands! Instead, I merely tapped the faucet with my forearm to turn the water off when I was done washing my hands or doing the dishes. And because I did the same thing when my hands were dirty or sticky, the tap stayed clean longer too!

An additional advantage of the Touch2O® technology is that it saves water. Since warm water is what we require most of the time, having the faucet set to a warm temperature with the handle means that we no longer have to waste time and water adjusting the temperature when we first turn on the faucet!

The other major highlight of the Pilar Single Handle Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet with Touch2O® Technology and Soap Dispenser is the pull-down spray head. While the Touch2O® technology was something that I became comfortable using almost immediately, it took me a little longer to really start using the pull-down spray head. I was just so used to a stationary faucet that I had to practice using the feature a little before I started remembering it was there. But once I was more accustomed to it, I was using it all the time! Jobs that had always been so difficult before like rinsing the high chair tray or cleaning the sides of the sink were suddenly a breeze thanks to the pull-down sprayer. And Delta’s amazing MagnaTite docking system quickly and easily locked the head back in place magnetically when I was done.

delta pilar pull-down kitchen faucet featuring touch20 technologyThe convenient features are rounded out with a push-button switch on the pull-down spray head to switch between streaming or spraying water, a Touch Clean head that lets you remove calcium and lime build-up with the touch of a finger and Delta’s patented Diamond Seal technology which uses a valve with a tough diamond coating that results in a faucet that lasts ten times longer than a regular faucet. The Delta Pilar faucet was stunning to look at, but the ingenious features were really what made it stand out!

I love our new faucet and the sophistication it adds to our kitchen. It’s beautiful to look at and it’s so incredibly convenient for a busy household. I can’t imagine anyone that wouldn’t benefit from the phenomenal Touch2O® technology! For faucets that offer the absolute best in style and function, Delta is the only name you need to know. Check out their amazing collection of faucets for yourself!

The Delta Bessborough in Saskatoon – A Family Vacation at the Castle on the River

August 16, 2011 by Kathryn Leave a Comment

It has been years since I have had a proper family vacation. It’s one of those things that we seem to plan for every year, but never actually get around to doing. So I felt incredibly spoiled this year when I got to enjoy not just one, but two family getaways! The first was a camping trip organized by my sister and her husband and I loved spending time with my extended family in the great outdoors. But the second vacation was the true treat for me: a three-day getaway at the gorgeous Delta Bessborough Hotel in Saskatoon, SK courtesy of Delta Hotels.

Our first view of the Delta Bessborough hotel

When Delta Hotels contacted me about the possibility of reviewing the hotel, I was elated. The Delta Bessborough is no ordinary hotel. Built in 1931, it is truly a piece of history and setting foot in the “castle on the river” is like stepping back in time. The hotel is stunning; there really is no other word to describe it.

The Delta Bessborough has a number of promotions and one of the best is that visitors coming to Saskatoon can enjoy one of the many fabulous events that the city hosts and then provide their event receipt to the Delta Bessborough to receive a special discounted room rate! I was given the chance to choose tickets to one of Saskatoon’s many special events as part of my review and there were tons of tempting options to choose from.

I knew my husband and oldest son would enjoy the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series event more than almost anything else, but I wasn’t too confident about Benjamin being able to last through the race. Personally, the great music festivals like The Saskatchewan Jazz Festival and Folkfest were the events that attracted me the most, but I knew my kids wouldn’t be quite as thrilled about attending the festivals as me. Eventually I decided to choose an event that is always a hit with parents and kids alike: The Saskatoon Exhibition.

The rooms were booked and Delta handled all the details, right down to arranging to have the tickets to the Saskatoon Exhibition waiting for us when we arrived at the hotel. For weeks after the plans were made, I thought of little else. Finally, the big day arrived and we set out to make the two-hour drive to Saskatoon, SK.

When we arrived at the hotel, my husband and sons were just as excited as I was. Zackary can be a little hard to handle when he’s overstimulated but the staff at the Delta Bessborough were completely accommodating. The website had mentioned that the hotel welcomed children, but every mother knows that that’s a much easier thing to say than it is to do. The Delta Bessborough really followed through on their statement every step of the way. The staff was so considerate of my boys and were equally adept at successfully managing Zackary’s zealousness and Benjamin’s shyness. I really felt like they enjoyed and cared about my kids, rather than just tolerating them. The boys even got fun age-appropriate goodie bags when we checked in!

While we spent the next two days enjoying the shows and rides at the Saskatoon Exhibition, we also spent quite a bit of time in the hotel. Our room happened to be in one of the sections of the hotel that featured a turret so we had an extra little hideaway space in the room and an extra window. The furniture fit right in with the style of the hotel and I felt positively princess-like working at the ornate desk in the room!

But for all its historic charm, the Delta Bessborough features all the comforts of the modern age as well. From free Wi-Fi and high speed Internet in every room to the beautiful pool and fitness room to flat-screen televisions with on-demand movies and video games, the old-world rooms had all the conveniences I could have asked for.

While the room itself was provided by Delta Hotels, we dipped into our own funds to test out the hotel’s unique Samurai restaurant. The restaurant features Teppanyaki style dining, where a chef prepares and cooks food for everyone right at the table. It was my first time dining in this manner and my husband and I had such a fun time! Zackary and Benjamin were a little rambunctious but the waitress was incredibly patient and even brought them little samples of all the things that we ate so they could try the food out too. And best of all, at a Delta Hotel, kids six and under eat for free!

Overall, our stay at the Delta Bessborough was so luxurious and yet still so family-friendly. Travelling with kids is always challenging, but Delta Hotels really helped to make our trip as pleasant and stress-free as possible. And the stunning atmosphere of the hotel is something I’ll look back on fondly for months to come!
