Tokyo with Kids? 10 Things to Do

April 4, 2018 by Kathryn 5 Comments

Visiting Toyko is a dream of mine, so I was thrilled when Tiffany of AsiaTravelBug offered to share her top ten things to do in Tokyo with kids. If you’re planning on making a trip to Tokyo with your family, make sure to put a few of these activities on your itinerary!

tokyo city

Tokyo is one of the world’s largest cities, and it is full of many exciting adventures for you and your kids. With so many things to do, it may be overwhelming to try and narrow down your list of adventures. But one of the best things about the city is that there are so many different activities available, rain or shine. Whether you are visiting for a day or a week, there are plenty of attractions to keep you and your little ones happy and entertained. Here are ten great ideas to get you started!

Enjoy a Full Day at Hanayashiki

This amusement park is the oldest one in Japan. There are entertainment aspects for both parents and kids. The park is located near a temple, and there are numerous restaurants and souvenir shops within the park. You can visit for a couple hours, or make a full day out of this one location. This park is great for small children because it is rather small, and they won’t have to walk nearly as much as in other amusement parks in Tokyo. [Read more…]

Finding Our Disney Side at the Disneyland Theme Park

January 20, 2014 by Kathryn 44 Comments

Visiting a Disney theme park was something that I always dreamed about as a child. I was lucky enough to travel quite a bit in my youth, but going to Disneyland was one adventure I never had the chance to experience. Last year that all changed when my boys and I flew off for a five-day trip to Disneyland to discover our Disney side for the first time.

What’s your Disney side? Well that’s simple. It’s the magic that fills you up and takes over your heart the second your family steps through the gates of a Disney theme park. As we prepared for our trip, I heard from friends about that moment their Disney side took over. For one father, it was seeing the way his little girls’ faces lit up when they saw the Mickey Mouse flower garden just inside the Disneyland entrance. For a mom friend, it was rushing off to take that first thrilling ride on Indiana Jones Adventure with her teenage son after arriving.

September on Disney Junior has New Episodes of Favourite Shows and a Magical Mermaid Contest #DisneyJuniorMom

September 4, 2013 by Kathryn 2 Comments

Summer is ending and kids are back in school, but that doesn’t mean that the fun is over! In fact, between extra-curricular activities, after-school playtime with friends and plenty of outdoor autumn adventures in store, the fun is just getting started for most kids! And that’s especially true at Disney Junior. With new episodes of your child’s favourite shows and a fun and magical contest little ones will love, September couldn’t be more exciting.

The good times kick off with brand new episodes of Justin Time debuting on Sunday, September 8 at 8:30am EST. Kids will love watching Justin and his friends head off on global adventures and it’s sure to make them want to go exploring on their own too! My boys, as born explorers, are especially big fans of the show. And after watching an episode, I generally find the two of them roving through the back yard acting out an imaginary global adventure of their own!

Top Five Disneyland Rides Every Family Should Experience

July 9, 2013 by Kathryn 73 Comments

Recently my boys and I made our first trip to Disneyland and experienced firsthand the magic that is Disney. A huge part of that magic is the rides and in the five days that we were in the park, the boys made it their mission to try all the best rides at Disneyland and California Adventure.

From classics such as the King Arthur Carousel to new favourites including Radiator Springs Racers, there is so much to choose from in both parks!

But what really impressed me was how many rides there were that families could enjoy together, even with younger children along. In our time at the park, these were our top five choices for Disneyland rides the whole family, from infants to grandparents, are sure to enjoy:

Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage

Climbing down a steep spiral staircase into a bright yellow submarine had both boys eager for the ride to begin as we took our seats in front of the portholes. As the submarine headed out into open water, fun fish, deep-sea divers and even a little girl snorkelling were all visible.

Then a sudden warning light and a violent shaking of the sub had us diving deeper, where the boys enjoyed seeing Nemo, Marlin, Dory and the other characters from finding Nemo frolicking and playing outside the submarine. [Read more…]

The Disney Princess Experience in the Fantasy Faire Royal Theatre at Disneyland

June 17, 2013 by Kathryn 41 Comments

There are so many little things about Disneyland that all combine to make visiting the resort a magical experience and on a recent press trip, I had the chance to experience those little things first hand. Disneyland is always growing, expanding and adding amazing new attractions to appeal to its visitors. But part of the magic of Disney is that those attractions are always specifically designed so that they feel timeless, as if they have been a part of the park since it was first built.

The Fantasy Faire attraction is the perfect example of that philosophy. This new section of Fantasyland at Disneyland opened in March of this year, but it feels as if it was always there. The attraction features medieval buildings, princess meet-and-greets and exclusive live shows, and if you have a little princess in your family, this is sure to become one of your favourite new places in Disneyland!
