Challenges and Solutions Using Bottles After Long-Term Breastfeeding #MomTrust

April 2, 2014 by Kathryn 2 Comments

When I gave birth to my oldest son, I was determined to breastfeed right from the beginning. My mom had breastfed all five of her children, sometimes for quite extended periods, and I didn’t even really consider not doing the same. I think I assumed it would be easy because it always looked so easy for her, so when I started breastfeeding and my nipples ended up cracked and bleeding, I was upset and confused. About two days after returning home from the hospital, I even considered giving up altogether. But I didn’t. I stuck it out and within about a month, breastfeeding was as natural as breathing to me.

Even so, a time came when my boys used bottles as well. At about one year of age, I would give my children whole milk in a bottle during the day or with meals as I gradually reduced their number of feedings. And I learned very quickly that finding the right bottle was HARD! Most of the bottles I owned had been designed for much younger babies, though I didn’t realize that at the time, and that meant that my boys simply weren’t getting milk quickly or easily enough. They had a tendency to chew on the nipples of the bottles to make the milk flow faster, which of course completely destroyed the nipples fairly quickly. [Read more…]

Sterilizing Is Easy with the Playtex SmartSteam 3 in 1 Microwave Sterilizer #MomTrust

February 10, 2014 by Kathryn 42 Comments

If there was one simple task as a parent that I always struggled with, it was sterilizing bottles. I remember how dedicated my mom was about the process when I was a child; she would boil a big pot of water and drop the bottles and nipples into it to ensure that they were safe. It was time-consuming and took a fair bit of work.

Since I breastfed my boys, I didn’t use bottles too often, but there were still times that my babies used a bottle every so often, and after one or two attempts at sterilizing the equipment, I ended up giving up in frustration. Our town’s hard water actually wrecked a few of the bottles by coating them with residue and the entire process was difficult and messy.

Playtex Mealtime Dishware and Utensils Make Meals Fun for Baby and Mom #MomTrust

January 21, 2014 by Kathryn 2 Comments

While there are plenty of Playtex products that I enjoy, I must say that my very favourite set of products is the Playtex Mealtime feeding line for toddlers. My boys have been using the Playtex Mealtime dishware since they first started eating solid foods and I love the collection just as much now as I did back then.

I recently received the Playtex Mealtime Toddler Feeding Set to review, but it was by no means the first Playtex Mealtime product we have had in the house. In fact, my boys use the Playtex Mealtime Bowls for their cereal every single morning! What I love about these plates and bowls, even for older children, is that they’re break-proof and shatter-proof with a rubber ring on the bottom to help minimize spills.

The Playtex Mom Trust Program Provides Reviews and Advice for New Moms

December 9, 2013 by Kathryn 47 Comments

Playtex infant and toddler products have been a staple in my house for years, and I love the way that the company is always innovating to make life easier for moms. From the new Smart line of feeding and diapering products to the always-popular Drop-Ins bottle system, Playtex items are a hit with moms and babies alike.

My personal favourite products are the toddler plates, bowls and cups. My boys were both messy eaters as babies, and so often plates would end up sliding off the table and onto the floor. The design of the Playtex toddler plates, bowls and cups was so effective that I actually still use them. I love the durable BPA-free plastic design, and the rubber grips on the bottom have been so helpful for preventing spills. [Read more…]

The Philips AVENT Comfort Manual Breast Pump is an Affordable Option for Busy Moms-Giveaway #AVENTMomsCA

November 18, 2013 by Brenna 39 Comments

After nursing all three of my children while also attending school and working full time, I have definitely tried out my fair share of breast pumps. It has been years since I’ve used a manual pump but I remember it being a struggle.  Still, manual breast pumps come at a fraction of the cost of the electric ones and can be a reasonable option if you aren’t looking to make a huge investment in your pump.  And the manual pump has come a long way since I last used one years ago.

Philips AVENT offers a well-designed manual pump that solves one of the former discomforts of manual pumping.  With most pumps you have to lean forward to help direct the milk into the bottle but with the Philips AVENT Comfort Manual Pump, leaning forward is unnecessary so you can sit comfortably and relaxed while expressing your milk.
