The 2015 Ford Fiesta ST is a Dream Combination of Power and Style

August 12, 2014 by Kathryn 2 Comments

I have to admit that I have a love of speed when I drive and even though I control my urge to race down the road, I can’t help but fall in love with a vehicle that has a lot of zip. So when Ford Canada recently gave me the chance to test drive the 2015 Ford Fiesta ST, it was love at first sight. The ST model of this little hatchback comes in standard only and boasts 197 horsepower, aluminum interior detailing and an ST-unique suspension. It’s virtually impossible not to have fun behind the wheel of this vehicle.

It had been years since I’d last driven a standard vehicle and I have to admit that I’d forgotten how much fun it was, especially in a sporty little car like this one. The Fiesta is built very compact, which means that it’s great on gas and perfect as a commuter car. Even so, it had a surprisingly roomy back hatch that could easily have held all the groceries from one of our family’s monthly stocking-up grocery trips.

My Chicken Farmers of Canada #MexicanFiesta with Tasty Chicken Tamale Pie

November 11, 2013 by Kathryn 38 Comments

There’s nothing my family loves more than a Mexican Fiesta. Mexican food is my boys’ favourite type of cuisine and one I love as well. I’ve been experimenting a lot with different Mexican dishes lately and so when Chicken Farmers of Canada challenged me to throw my own Mexican Fiesta and create one of its tasty Mexican recipes for our feast, I couldn’t resist.

As far as my boys are concerned, tacos and fajitas are the best Mexican food ever created, but I wanted to shake things up a bit and try something new. I decided to create the Chicken Tamale Pie and it was just the kind of unique and delicious meal I had hoped it would be. [Read more…]

October 29, 2013 by Kathryn Leave a Comment

If there’s one thing I love, it’s a Mexican feast. It’s one of the few styles of cuisine that my boys will eat without complaint and it’s one of my favourite meals too. From tacos to burritos to quesadillas to homemade guacamole and salsa verde, what’s not to love? Chicken Farmers of Canada love Mexican food as much as I do and so with their help, I’ll soon be throwing a fabulous Mexican Fiesta and cooking up a tasty Mexican chicken dish for my family. I’ll post the details of my experience shortly but in the meantime, get some inspiration for your own Mexican Fiesta with a fabulous Twitter party!

Throw a Mexican Fiesta with Old El Paso and an Easy Tres Leches Cake Recipe-Giveaway

September 20, 2013 by Kathryn 190 Comments

There’s nothing worse than getting into a dinner rut, but once the school routine kicks in, it tends to happen. The same four or five meals end up in a rotation that can soon have the whole family feeling less than thrilled about sitting down to supper. So when Old El Paso Canada sent me a fabulous assortment of Dinner Kits and kitchen gadgets to help me break out of the dinner rut, I couldn’t wait to embrace the challenge.

As it happened, September 16 was El Grito de Dolores, or Mexican Independence Day, the biggest holiday on the Mexican calendar. What better way to break out of the dinner rut than to celebrate the holiday with a Mexican feast? I decided to serve up scrumptious Old El Paso hard and soft tacos complete with homemade guacamole and all the fixings. My foolproof guacamole recipe, which simply combines one mashed avocado, a few tablespoons of salsa, a spritz of lime juice and a bit of chopped fresh parsley, lets me enjoy my favourite Mexican topping in a flash!

The boys and I had a great time feasting on tacos together, but of course it’s not really a party without a special dessert! I wanted something fun and fitting with our Mexican theme, but it was still a weekday so I also wanted something quick and easy. Fortunately, my recipe for Tres Leches Cake fulfilled both requirements! [Read more…]

Crusing in Style in the 2012 Ford Fiesta

June 25, 2012 by Kathryn 4 Comments

When Ford Canada first called to offer us a 2012 Ford Fiesta to drive for the week, I have to admit that I wasn’t especially excited about the prospect. We’ve been able to drive some very amazing Ford vehicles in the last few months and while I was sure the Fiesta would be a nice comfortable ride, I didn’t really expect it to wow me.

Boy, was I in for a shock. The sporty Ford Fiesta that we received was absolutely gorgeous and the red and black colour scheme of the vehicle was enough to wow anybody. I was so excited to cruise around in such a sleek little vehicle for the next week!
