Celebrate Canada’s Unique Beauty with New AirWick Canadian Park Series Fragrances

June 29, 2015 by Kathryn 23 Comments

I’ve lived in a small town in the Saskatchewan prairies for my entire life and no matter where the future takes me, I’m sure that the lush Qu’Appelle Valley and the endless farmland fields will always feel like home. But while I may have always lived in the same small town (and even in the same house), I’ve had the opportunity to see so much more of Canada over the years. I’ll always be a Saskatchewan woman at heart, but being Canadian means so much more to me.

In fact, since I was a child, I’ve loved the mountains and forests of British Columbia almost as much as I love the fields of Saskatchewan. My mother was raised in B.C. and most of her family still calls the province home. As a youngster, road trips to visit my aunts, uncles and cousins were a must every summer. And while connecting with family was fabulous, the landscape was just as wonderful to me. On every trip we used to spend at least a few days camping on the private family beach. Waking up to go for a swim in the crystal clear lake and then wandering the forest picking wild blackberries is one of my fondest memories.

As I grew older, I had the chance to see a different side of Canada as well: the urban side! Saskatchewan is very much a rural province and I remember how shocked I was to learn that the population of the city of Toronto was 2.5 times bigger than my entire home province! While the number of people in the city overwhelmed me at first, I soon fell in love with the art and culture of the city. The diversity of Toronto is like a living testament to the diversity of Canada itself! [Read more…]

Try One of These 6 Must-Experience Canadian May Long Weekend Adventures

May 13, 2015 by Kathryn 8 Comments

There’s nothing I love more than exploring the great outdoors, and May Long Weekend is one of the best times to do that! With the snow finally gone and spring in full swing, getting outside for some fun and adventure is always a must for our family. This May Long Weekend, why not throw caution to the wind and see what this beautiful country has to offer? These six attractions across Canada are ones the whole family will enjoy!

six canadian adventures

  • Watch whales instead of Netflix—The Vancouver Whale Watch, now in its 15th year, provides a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the majestic creatures in action.
  • Check out the Wildlife Discovery Tour in Jasper, Alberta—the best place in the Canadian Rockies to see wildlife. Follow along knowledgeable guides in search of moose, elk, bear, mountain sheep, wolves, and even loons, eagles and osprey.
  • Visit the Sukanen Ship Pioneer Village outside Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. This 40-acre museum contains a pioneer village, antique grain elevator, farmyard and the Sukanen ship itself. With plenty of antiques and room to explore, it gives visitors a glimpse into life on the prairies in the past.
  • Venture over to The Forks, Winnipeg’s meeting place where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers join. Whether it’s beautiful scenery, dining, shopping or entertainment, it’s a great place to check out with the family over the long weekend.
  • Give white water rafting a go at the River Run Rafting and Wilderness Resort in the Ottawa Valley. This family style raft trip is fun for adults as well as children of all ages.
  • Hike the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. From hiking to kayaking to whale watching, the Cabot Trail provides the recipe for a perfect May Long Weekend.

When I choose jewellery or accessories for my wardrobe, I want them to be as original as I am. Even the simple silver necklace I wear every day is one that I personalized to suit me specifically. And when I’m dressing up, I want my accessories to stand out and reflect the unique spirit within me. That’s why it only took one glance for me to fall in love with the gorgeous metal and macramé jewellery from Rumi Sumaq.

These pieces are designed and created by Coco Paniora Salinas and are influenced by the culture and beliefs of his home country of Peru. What instantly struck me about this jewellery was its strong natural influence. Created with metal, stone and hilo encerrado plant fibre, each piece is one-of-a-kind, just like the woman that will be wearing it. I was delighted when I was given the chance to review one of the stunning necklaces for myself. [Read more…]
